Hi guys,

I have defined two mobile phones as users and I have tried to send MMS from one mobile phone to other. I have experimented that MMSs were only sent by the NowSMS server each time that I restarted it. Why arent they sent inmediatly after being received?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob,

I have absolutely no idea. I couldn't imagine what would cause this type of problem.

When NowSMS is acting as an MMSC, the MMS notification messages go out over SMS. So something is going wrong with the SMS connectivity ... what type of SMSC connection is being used?

Enable the SMSDEBUG.LOG and MMSCDEBUG.LOG ... which is most easily done via checkboxes on the "Serial #" page of the configuration dialog.

Then send another message, and let's take a look at those debug logs (post as an attachment in a reply here).

I have checked the log file and it seems that the modem fails really easily.

Do you have any idea why the modem is faling so frequently? I have tried with other nokia phones and I have experimented the same behavior.

Hi Rob,

Have you tried different cables?

Often times when errors are this common, it is a cable issue.

Basically, when this error situation happens, try stopping NowSMS, and then go into the Windows Control Panel / Phone & Modem Options ... try to select the diagnostics for the modem and "Query Modem". I expect that you'll be told that the modem is not responding.

When yo usee the "Error waiting for response from modem (2)", this indicates that we sent a command to the modem, and we're not getting a response back.

When this happens, we send some simple commands to the modem to see if it is responding. If not, we close the COM port, and try to reopen it. In this case, the Windows drivers are saying that the modem cannot be initialised.

You might want to try the latest patch for NowSMS: http://www.nowsms.com/download/latestpatch.zip

In the latest version, when a modem is unresponsive, we try some additional techniques to wake it up. But in this case, I'd be surprised if it made a difference.

Try a different USB cable, and maybe a different USB port. You'd be amazed at how cheaply made, and unreliable a lot of the 3rd party USB cables are.
