When I receive a SMS that is >160 characters, it is split into multiple SMSs of binary type. How can I configure the gateway such that I receive a combined textual SMS of the original length? Thank you.

Hi Clement, NowSMS does this automatically. If it is not, then something is wrong somewhere ... but I don't have enough information to diagnose the problem. Can you give me examples of what you are receiving? Also, please tell me what type of SMSC connection you are using. -bn

I'm using NowSMS attached to a Wavecomm GSM modem. As my 2-way SMS application is expecting a textual SMS, it always ignores SMSs that are >160 characters, as they are always received as binary meesages (seen from the log). Is there a setting somewhere I need to look out for? Thanks.

Hi Clement, There is no setting. As I stated before, NowSMS does this automatically. If it is not, then something is wrong somewhere, but I don't have enough information to diagnose the problem. I need to see examples of what you are receiving. And it would also help to know what the original expected text was. An SMSDEBUG.LOG would be ideal for allowing me to see this. Also, to make sure that it is not a network issue, I'd suggest taking the SIM from the modem and putting it into a phone. Send a long SMS to the phone using the modem's SIM, and make sure the phone is receiving it ok. -bn

Attached is my SMSDEBUG.LOG. Tried using the SIM on the phone, it works fine.

Hi Clement, That SMSDEBUG.LOG only shows a single message being received. And it is 109 character in length that is in text format. So obviously this doesn't help us any in troubleshooting the problem that you originally described. The SMSDEBUG.LOG is overwritten every time the service is restarted (or overnight). To have any hope of troubleshooting this problem, I'd need to see an SMSDEBUG.LOG showing messages that are not being processed as you expect. (I also would like to know what text you are expecting to receive in the problem messages.) -bn |
