The following thread has information on all of the configuration options relating to e-mail to SMS or MMS interworking:

http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/3451.html

Generally speaking, you would configure your mail server to relay messages to NowSMS. So you would keep your e-mail client configured to talk to your existing mail server. The mail server would recognise when you send a mesasge to user@(domain name configured for NowSMS), and route it to the NowSMS server.

But if you just wanted to configure Outlook Express to connect to NowSMS directly, it is possible.

The only problem is that NowSMS only appears as an SMTP server for outbound mail. It does not appear as a POP3 or IMAP4 server for inbound mail.

So when you create an account within Outlook Express, you need to point the incoming mail server (POP3 or IMAP4) to point to a mailbox on another mail server. Then configure the outgoing mail server (SMTP) to point to the NowSMS server ... and configure it to use authentication so that it logs in to send outbound messages via SMTP with credentials that match a user account defined under "SMS Users".

You can have NowSMS route received SMS messages via SMTP to your POP3 or IMAP4 mailbox. (Define a "mailto:user@domain" link in the "2-way" command field for processing received messages.)

Hi Bryce,

thanks for the quick reply. that's an informative material that i should remember. another question is, am i able to send an email message from my mobile phone to nowsms then make it routed to sms? then can i received a reply from my email which i sent before? if so, do you have a past thread that discussed about this? thank you very much

That's a tough one, let me explain.

When you send a message to an SMS recipient, and the SMS recipient replies back ... there is nothing in the reply that can be used to match the reply up with the originally sent message.

So if you send an e-mail to SMS, and the SMS user replies, there is nothing in the reply SMS to allow us to match it back up for sending to the original sender.

NowSMS does allow you to define 2-way commands to route received SMS to an e-mail address ... but it requires that either you put the e-mail address in at the start of the SMS, or that all received SMS are routed to the same e-mail address.

But the true reply ability is not there.

We could assume that when an SMS reply is received, we route it back to the last e-mail sender who sent an SMS to that particular user. However, there is potential for problems in doing this. Suppose that multiple e-mail senders had sent messages that got routed via the gateway to SMS ... no matter which message the user replied to, the reply would get routed to the most recent sender.

We do have an add-on product that can address this. However, it requires that you have at least 20 phone numbers associated with your installation (either 20 GSM modems, or more likely 20 or more phone numbers associated with an SMSC connection). Each time we route an e-mail to SMS, we use a different phone number out of this pool (up to 20 or more different numbers), and this way, we can better match up the replies.

It's a complex issue ...
