I've looked through the site and am still unsure as to whether Now SMS will allow me to do what I need. We currently have a security camera system at the office, when motion is detected by a camera it sends an email containing a snapshot of what triggered the alert. What I would like to do is have the cameras send an email which will then be converted by a programme into MMS form. The snapshot will then be sent to a mobile phone. Thanks for your help.

Hi James,

Yes, you can do that. We actually have a handful of customers that are doing just that.

The first step is to configure NowSMS so that it can send an MMS via the web interface. This can be a little complex because MMS is complex, and there can be some operator specific issues. (http://www.nowsms.com/howmmsworks.htm has a good overview of how MMS works and the issues.)

Basically, it depends on your mobile operator as to whether or not you can send an MMS with NowSMS as MMSC, or whether you have to use a GPRS modem to deliver the message via an operator MMSC. (Or, alternatively, you can also deliver the picture to the phone using multimedia WAP Push.)

Anyway, the first step is getting the MMS connectivity sorted so that you can send an MMS via the web interface.

The next step is to enable the SMTP interface to allow you to send an e-mail message.

There is a lot of information about e-mail to SMS and MMS with NowSMS here: http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/3451.html

However, here's the basics that you need to know:

NowSMS looks like an SMTP server, so your camera can post a message to an MMS address by connecting to NowSMS as an SMTP server. (NowSMS will not relay to other e-mail servers in this way, it will only accept e-mail to be routed to MMS recipients.)

On the "MMSC Users" page, register the phone numbers that you will be sending MMS messages to in this user list.

On the "MMSC" page of the configuration dialog, you need to configure "Domain Name for MMS E-Mail". When NowSMS receives an SMTP message addressed to phonenumber@ this domain name, it will route it for delivery for MMS.
