I have been trying to configure Now SMS to send MMS messages using a Motorola V3 connected to a GPRS enabled network. Everytime I try to install, it disconnects the modem from the net where it is connected. Where it is not connected, it gives me a PPP Link terminated message. I can successfully send MMS messages using the handset itself. Does anybody have any ideas?

Jimmy,

I need more details.

Have you configured the settings for NowSMS to send MMS via the operator MMSC?

What operator? What settings are you using?

What errors does NowSMS report?

I just need more info to try to help.

Hi Bryce

Here's the debug from our V3 here

1. On sending messages
2006-09-18 17:24:47,450EC176.req,127.0.0.1,0XXXXXXXXXXX,Retry Pending - ERROR - Modem Response (2): +CMS ERROR: 304 -- Motorola USB Modem

2. On testing MMS Settings

Connection Failed
RAS Error 734
The PPP link control protocol was terminated

We are testing on O2 and have automatically looked up the MMS Server settings from with the latest NowSMS

Regards

Alex

Hi Alex,

1.) This "CMS ERROR 304" error is a bug in the GSM modem implemenation of most Motorola phones. They support sending text messages ... but the bug prevents them from being able to send any messages that include "user data header", which includes WAP Push, EMS and most binary SMS message types.

Unfortunately, there is no solution for this issue other than to use a different GSM modem.

2.) This error suggests that either the phone does not have a GPRS signal, or it cannot connect to the specified APN. Note that O2 does use different APNs if you have a pre-paid SIM vs. a post-paid SIM. (The ones in our list are for post-paid/contract.) Verify that you can send MMS with the phone, and try to check the pre-configured settings on the phone.
