Jimbo,

Do you have an MMS compatible phone? I'm curious if these settings are different from what the configuration settings are with your mobile phone?

I checked the Singtel web site, and for the user id it says that should be your phone number including country code (e.g., 6591234567). And your password is your IDEAS password.

For MMSC, it says it should be mms.singtel.com:10021/mmsc

The error code that you are getting indicates that the connection to the GPRS APN is ok. But we are not having any luck communicating with the WAP gateway over that connection.

Make sure that when you specify the WAP gateway IP in NowSMS, you do not enter any leading zeroes (enter exactly as shown above).

I'd suggest taking a look at existing configuration settings in a working mobile phone, and see if you notice any differences.

Also, I'm assuming that in NowSMS, you are specifying a "Modem:" entry for the "Network Connection Type". If not, please try that.

Beyond that, let's enable the debug log for the WAP client. Create a file named MMSWAP.INI in the NowSMS program directory. Place the following content in that file:

[MMSWAP]
Debug=Yes

Repeat the "Test Connection", and there should be some content in a file named MMSWAPDEBUG.LOG. What is the content of that file?

Maybe we'll see a problem in that log.

Hi Bryce,
I've tried the configurations again and here's how my MMSWAPDEBUG.LOG looks like:

I think it's because my IP address is in a local network, that makes me unable to connect to the WAP gateway?
Arghh.. and one thing, i have only 1 sim card to run the test. So swapping of SIM cards is just not right. I'll try to get another SIM card for testing later on.

In my Network Connection Type, there's only an option for me to choose. Which is "Local Area Connection 2". For the "Modem Used:" i choose COM1:. Could that lead to a problem?

Hi Jimmy,

That explains it. You need to configure a Windows modem driver for the modem, and then in "Connect Using", select that modem driver.

For the Wavecom modem, I know that they don't produce a driver themselves, but the "Standard" or "Generic" modem drivers that ship with Windows will work just fine.

However, I will be curious to hear how you get on after doing that. It should work without any problem with SMS. But, so far, we've had a few people try the MMS functionality with Wavecom GSM/GPRS modems, and it appears that they do not support the ETSI GSM 07.07 AT commands for GPRS. Specifically, we expect the AT+CGDCONT command to be supported, and ATD*99# to be used for dialing. Hopefully newer Wavecom GSM/GPRS modems support this ... as without support for any GPRS related commands, I don't know how a modem could claim to support GPRS ...

Hi Bryce,

Sorry for the late reply. Alrite, since I cant use a direct delivery of my MMS through my Wavecome modem, can I use MMS notification to direct the user to retrieve the MMS from a server? Is the MMS notification being sent over GPRS? If it is, I guess it wouldnt work as well. If it is sent through sms, it would really be great...

Hi Jimmy,

The MMS notification comes in via SMS, but then the receiving client (in this case our gateway) needs to be able to download the URL that is referenced in the notification. This URL contains the actual MMS message content.

You can try it, and see what happens. But I suspect that your operator will require that the message content be downloaded over a GPRS connection. (What you'll see is that for each notification received, NowSMS creates a file in the MMSINQ directory ... but it is then unable to download the referenced URL that contains the actual message.)

You could definitely download an MMS notification for a message that originated with your system, the problem is the MMS messages coming from the operator system.

I wish I had some more guidance. But unfortunately that GPRS bit is real important for being able to retrieve MMS from operator systems.
