Hello Brice, we have the option of two hardwares to install the WTLS and NowSMS. One option is a Pentium 4 2,8 GHz 1GB RAM ; the other option is a server with 4 CPU Pentium III 800 Mhz 2GB RAM. Which do you recommend? | |||

Hi Martin, That is a tough decision. Both NowWAP and NowSMS generally do best with multiple CPU configurations (or with dual core and/or hyperthreaded processors). The reason for this is because multithreading is used for processing multiple transactions concurrently. And multiple processors means this can happen more efficiently. But, a Pentium III / 800Mhz CPU is going to be between 25% and 30% of the performance of a Pentium 4 / 2.8 Ghz CPU. So, a machine with 4 of those CPUs could be just marginally faster in total throughput than the single processor 2.8Ghz Pentium 4 ... but when I say marginally, I'd say about 5-10%. So it's not a big difference. 1GB vs. 2GB is probably not going to make much difference. My bigger concern would be that the 4 CPU system is probably a few years old, right? So I would have a concern that this system might be more likely to have some type of hardware failure. My conservative nature would probably steer me toward the single processor system, just because of my perception that the chance of a hardware failure would be less. You might view things differently, however. -bn |
