Moving my question here from http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/12/15453.html

If compose an MMS with any content and use Forward Lock option from NowSMS web interface (I use 2006 edition)
A content file received with '.dm' added to its name (e.g. 'pic.jpg' file used and 'pic.jpg.dm' received).

As far as FL mechanism does not change the file and specified by
"Content-type: application/vnd.oma.drm.message"
option, file should not be changed.

Note: I downloaded file 'pic.jpg.dm' from mobile FS, compared it to initial 'pic.jpg' and found it binary identical, so file is not changed indeed - why extension added?

Note2: Some time ago I tried previous version of NowSMS without CD/SD mechanisms and only FL available - it didn't add this ext.

Hi Alex,

I thought we always added this extension.

"pic.jpg.dm" is the content with the forward lock wrapper.

"pic.jpg" is the content without the wrapper.

I assume this is causing a problem for you, maybe you could provide some detail on that.

Hi Bryce,
It's unclear why files pic.jpg and pic.jpg.dm sent by NowSMS are REALLY (checked binary) same.
I tried to make a FL protected file using 3 tools:
Motorola DRM Tool (2.70)
Nokia Content Publishing Toolkit 2.0
and Sony Ericsson DRM Packager
and found that those files different
added header:

--mime_content_boundary
Content-Type: image/gif
Content-Transfer-Encoding: binary

and some more stuff (different for each DRM tool).

In other point of view (meaning current NowSMS processing) - FL flag is a part of MMS message, when file is saved to file system - this flag is set on file properties. Also known that one MMS message can contain only one forward-locked content. I'm not an expert, but if take into account that FL flag is kept by phone's file system - not clear why .dm extension is necessary.
