Regarding: http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/485/15963 .html

but I had troubles posting to this thread so here is my part:

Hi,

I am also having this problem now and and "cooling the modem down" is not working for me :-)

I have the modem (Siemens mc35i) working on a test machine but when I wanted to move to the new production server, it starting giving me "modem does not support SMS" error messages so I can't add the modem.

Back on the testing machine, when you want to run tests, it gives the same error and NOWSMS even wants to remove the modem. However, everything still works - receiving SMS and MMS ( we are not sending anything so can't test that)

Running the commands given above in hyperterminal gives:
AT+CSMS=0 = +CMS ERROR: 500
AT+CMGF=0 = OK

I would like to know if this a modem or NOWSMS thing and how to go about fixing it.

We are only receiving SMS and MMS so if this is a check that NOWSMS does is only for sending SMS, then is there any way we can disable the check and carry on adding the modem, which we know (or maybe not) works?

Otherwise, if this a modem fault, then do we have grounds for a replacement?

Many thanks
Nick

Hi Nick,

This is truly bizarre. I can't imagine what would cause a modem to exhibit this behaviour ... in extreme heat or cold for that matter.

That said, we did make some changes in the latest update for NowSMS where we no longer require a successful response to the "AT+CSMS=0" command.

We didn't make that change for any reason related to the problem that you are experiencing. Instead, we made the change to be more flexible in supporting a particular CDMA modem.

If AT+CSMS=0 fails, we do require AT+CSMS? to return a successful response.

The update is only for NowSMS 2006 ... and it is at http://www.nowsms.com/download/patch2006.zip.

I would suggest giving this a try. And yes, I do think you are experiencing a modem fault. Whether or not it is grounds for replacement depends on warranty policies, how long you've had it, etc., so I can't comment on that.

But maybe this update will make a difference.
