Hi Bryce,

I'm using Now SMS 5.51k (b20051013).
Yesterday I've discovered, that somebody was sending MMS to very long MSISDN:

10:57:39,SAR-+99586666666699222222222222225555555555555555544444444-5e-2-1.req,, +99586666666699222222222222225555555555555555544444444,Retry Pending - ERROR: Timeout waiting for response from server or lost connection -- SMPP - x.x.x.x:9090,SubmitUser=localsystem-mmsc
2006-07-30

As you see from the log NowMMS complaints about timeout, but we couldn't find any attempt to send that message from SMSC side, there were no SMPP PDU's at all. Seems like message like this could affect normal operation for couple of minutes after each retry.

Hi David,

I know someone else has mentioned this issue to us before, and we made a change where we would reject MMS messages to obviously invalid phone numbers at the MMS level.

What I'm not sure of is whether or not this change is only in NowSMS 2006.

I don't see any mention of this in the updates log. But I know that NowSMS 2006 will reject an MMS message submitted via MM1 (standard phone submission) if a phone number is longer than 20 digits by default. Edit MMSC.INI, and under the [MMSC] header, you can set PhoneNumberMaxLength=## to set an alternate limit instead of 20.

But, it does look like v5.51k does not support this setting.

For a short-term fix, I see that over in another thread (http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/485/15769.html), we did a patch for the v5.51k MMSC to address another issue. It looks like that patch includes this setting. If you want to send an e-mail to nowsms@now.co.uk with a subject of "Attention: Bryce" then I can send this patch to you.

You might also want to talk to Keith about what's involved with your getting updated to NowSMS 2006. I don't know if you already qualify for an auth code because of message count upgrades that you've done in the last year or not.
