Hi,

I just downloaded the trial version for evaluation. I set up the MMS Gateway using a Motorola Razr V3 phone as GSM modem. I am using t-mobile in the USA. The modem tested fine during installation. But when I attempt to send an mms message out to another phone it appears to send it but I get the following error in the Event Viewer.

"The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( NowSMS ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Error initializing SMSC Interface 'Motorola USB Modem'. Interface is not available.."

What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance for your help :-)

I forgot to mention that I have not setup the MMSC fully. At this point I would like to route the MMS through TMobile. How do I setup the gateway so that the reciever can get the message from TMobile - as opposed to downloading it from my server?

Thanks,

Srini

Hi Srini,

Ignore the bit about "The description for Event ... blah blah". I don't know why some people are seeing this, but it appears that the installation program is sometimes not setting a registry entry properly for the Windows event viewer.

This is not necessarily an operational problem ... strictly a cosmetic issue for the event viewer only.

However, the "Error initializing SMSC interface 'Motorola USB Modem'" part is important. This means that NowSMS is not able to successfully communicate with the modem.

There should be more detailed error information available in SMSOUT-yyyymmdd.LOG, and I would like to hear what those errors are reporting.

Try to test the modem again.

Note that the RAZR (and most other Motorola phones) have a serious bug in them that prevent them from being able to be used to send any binary SMS messages (EMS, WAP Push, MMS notifications). But, you can still use them to send MMS over GPRS via the operator MMSC.

To enable this, you need to define a routing on the "MMSC Routing" page that connects to the T-Mobile MMSC. (See http://www.nowsms.com/documentation/ProductDocumentation/mms_notifications_and_c ontent/Connecting_to_operator_MMSC.htm) Then make that route the default outbound route.

Hi Bryce,
When I post to the MMS gateway using this string, I get an "Internal Error". I am doing something stupid but I cant figure out what :-(

http://www.xyz.com:3355/?PhoneNumber=1234567890&MMSFrom=srini&MMSSubject=test&MM SFile=http://www.xyz.com:3377/mpulse/data/mPulse1311_2.3gp

The file (http://www.xyz.com:3377/mpulse/data/mPulse1311_2.3gp) is valid and exists. The phone # is also valid.

The nowSMS gateway and the webserver serving the data are both hosted on the same machine (different ports).

What am I missing?

Thanks & regards,

Srini

Hi Srini,

Try to extract the HTML text associated with this "500 Internal Error" response, as it should include more information about the problem.

Alternatively, try posting with a web browser, and you should see the error text.

The most common problem in this situation would be an inability to fetch the URL. But the second most common problem would be if the SMS Gateway component (which processes these URL submissions) cannot connect to the MMSC component. Make sure the "MMSC" service is running, and that its "HTTP Port Number" is unique from any other server port numbers being used on the local machine.
