There seems to be a lot of technical information here, but something is not clicking with me.

Can you be provide some more specifics on how this service works?

We are wanting to FTP or email a file with jpeg and some text info and then have that assembled and MMSed to 1 to 5 mobile phones. EG Image and
some text.

Is this possible?

How does it work?

Hi,

The first point of confusion may be that NowSMS is not a service offering. In other words, we do not offer a service to which you connect for sending/receiving SMS or MMS.

So if something is not clicking in your understanding, it may be that you are expecting NowSMS to be a service provider.

The Now SMS/MMS Gateway is a software product. NowSMS is not a bulk SMS or MMS service provider, and it is not a replacement for an SMS or MMS service provider. You need a subscription to an SMS service provider, or a GSM modem, in order to send messages with NowSMS.

To give you a better idea of where NowSMS fits into the picture, I usually explain it like this ...

The Now SMS/MMS Gateway is a middleware tool for SMS and MMS, which among other features, can be used to manage connections to one or more service providers and/or GSM modems; or to manage receiving SMS or MMS messages; or to perform message formatting for advanced message types such as WAP push, MMS, OTA configurations, etc.

So basically, you would normally use NowSMS in conjunction with an SMS and/or MMS service provider and/or GSM/GPRS modems.

Here's some general info that might help you:

With the basics out of the way, I'll try to address your specific question:

With NowSMS, you can either submit the JPEG and text via HTTP or via e-mail. (For the e-mail interface, NowSMS can be configured to look like an SMTP mail server.)

NowSMS then repurposes the content for delivery via MMS.

For the type of setup that you describe, you'd probably be using a GSM/GRPS modem as your MMS connectivity into the mobile network, simply because there are not a lot of choices for MMS service providers like there are with SMS ... so setting up a GSM/GPRS modem is usually an easier route to go.
