I have AC750 and it drops the connection periodically but doesn't recover it automatically so I cannot run the server without manually reconnecting. How can I make the modem keep the connection 'always on' and recover it when its dropped?

The following info is a little old: http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/485/2265.html But maybe it will help. As I recall, the key bit was that the default profile needed to be configured for "Auto Connect".

Thanks Bryce, I've read the post you reffered to several times by now :D before posting about this. The problem is that even though when the modem auto-connects on start up it later doesn't reconnect on its own after losing the connection and I have to manually reconnect. I seem to have seen something in the past where one can add an intial AT setting for the modem so it keeps trying to rebind on a failure but I haven't found anyhting yet.

Hmm ... as I understand it, this auto-connect was handled in the Sierra Wireless software driver itself, independent of AT commands. The software includes a network driver, and this enables you to have a GPRS connection, but still talk to the modem via AT commands at the same time. If the network driver is not active, you can also connect with ATD*99#. But it is generally more convenient to go through the network driver. I don't actively use the AC750 any more, but as I recall, when I was in a spotty coverage area, it would definitely automatically reconnect. (I remember one hotel room in particular where I experienced this.) But I was definitely going through the network driver, which it does sound like you have configured. The other approach uses dial-up networking, which generally does not auto-reconnect.

What happens is that the network connection becomes 'broken' and can be repaired by right clicking and using 'repair' option in windows networking but it definetely doesn't re-connect on its own unless I re-start the card. What do you use now instead of AC750?

For my own use, I currently use a Sony laptop with a built in EDGE adapter. Let me dig out the AC750, and refresh my memory about it. It's going to take me a few days to find the time. It reminds me that I also need to borrow my colleague's AC860. We've done NowSMS testing with it, of course, but I could benefit from first hand knowledge of using it for a longer period of time. -bn

Have you tried a high gain external aerial ?, my AC 750 stays connected for days at a time with one. Whilst on the subject of AC750's, I have several that died during firmware updates, does anyone know how to re-install firmware on cards that are "not present".

I figured it out (I think), the reason for disconnect is that when theres another better connection present (LAN or wifi) the card closes its link down. At times when I didn't have another connection on, the card connection stayed on. |
