Hi, We are using NowSMS to send OMA Client Provisioning messages for our mobile VoIP service to Nokia E Series (E60, E61, E70) phones. We have run into 2 problems: 1. When sending a particular characteristic, APPLICATION/CODEC, the message is never received by the destination phone. NowSMS logs show that the message was sent and the modem returns OK for each segment. 2. When sending the settings document without the APPLICATION/CODEC characteristic, the message is received by the destination phone but only if sent from a modem on the same network. Specifically, sending to a T-Mobile phone from a modem with a Cingular SIM does not "work". That is we get the same effect as (1) above - the local log show the messages were sent but it is never received by the destination. This also happens from T-Mobile to Cingular and from Cingular to a phone with an old AT&T SIM. We are using S60 3rd Edition phones for the sending modems (N91 and E61 specifically). In all cases we are using the "Send XML Settings Document" interface. Thanks, nelson | |||

Hi Nelson, Let me take the easier question first ... 2. With a GSM modem in the US, you cannot send binary SMS cross-carrier. The SMS interconnections between the US operators simply do not support this. (Sometimes you'll get garbage, sometimes the message will just disappear.) Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to overcome this limitation. The only alternative is to send SMS through an SMS provider that supports binary SMS to these carriers. 1. Change the "wap-provisioningdoc" version to "1.2" ... and make sure that you are running a version of NowSMS 2006 that supports v1.2 of OMA OTA. (2006.06.01 or later ... if you have an earlier version download http://www.nowsms.com/download/2006patch.zip for an update). -bn | |||
