We've purchased a MultiTech GSM modem, and have also started an unlimited sms/mms plan with T-Mobile. I downloaded the NowSMS trial software and I can send SMS messages but Im having trouble with the MMSC configuration.

From what I understand, NowSMS defaults to direct delivery of MMS messages, where a dynamic URL to the MMS content is created by the NowSMS software, that points to the the location of the server its installed on. The server we have is on a network behind a LinkSys router. The external IP address is static, and I set the router to forward port 80 to the NowSMS server, but Im still unable to send an MMS message. I dont get an error when sending from the Web Console.

I also tried the Operator delivery method, using the stored T-Mobile info, however I still cant send a MMS message to my Verizon phone, or my friends Sprint phone.

Hi Scott,

If you want to send cross-operator in the US, forget about the MMSC "Direct Delivery" configuration. (I believe this configuration will work if you are only sending to other T-Mobile subscribers, but that does assume that the "local host name or IP address" that you have configured is truly externally accessible through the router.)

Going the route of delivering the message through the operator MMSC is preferable for going cross operator.

However, I do not think that T-Mobile and Verizon have an MMS interoperability agreement yet. Almost all of the other majors have interoperability agreements with each other, but this one seems to be missing ... unless things have changed and I am not aware (which would be nice ... as I'd love to be wrong about this).

Can you start by trying to send an MMS to another T-Mobile subscriber? It's eaiser to troubleshoot things if we take things one step at a time.

Common problems / issues to check for ...

On the "MMSC Routing" page, make sure your definition for the GPRS connection to the operator MMSC is set as the "Default Route".

Make sure that this "MMSC Routing" definition has the "Default Sender Address" field blank, and "Allow Sender Address override" UNchecked.

If that all checks out ok, enable the "SMSDEBUG.LOG", "MMSCDEBUG.LOG" & "MMSWAPDEBUG.LOG" on the "Serial #" page of the configuration dialog of NowSMS. Repeat your sending attempt, then ZIP up those files and post in reply (or e-mail them to nowsms@now.co.uk with "Attention: Bryce" in the subject line, and reference this thread so that I know why I'm looking at the logs).

I got the web interface to work through operator delivery, and also was able to successfully send a MMS message to my verizon phone. My question now is where can i get information about how to implement reveiving SMS/MMS messages in my C#.Net application? Im not able to find alot of documentation on reveiving messages. Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Scott

Im can receive sms messages in the sms-in folder. When I try to receive MMS messages, I get the 2 concatinated sms messages, but nothing ever goes into the MMS-IN folder.(I never get the MMS message). Ive configured the properties for "MMS Settings" for TMobile - USA, Ive created a VASP for the operator, and still I get nothing. All of the options for MMS delivery are set to "Deliver to MMS-IN folder". Still nothing.

OK. I figured it all out. I read through other posts and found that the only thing i was missing was the "Direct to Modem" setting. Once I changed that it all worked.
Next thing to figure out is how to send MMS messages.

For sending MMS through a GSM/GPRS modem (via an operator MMSC), you need to configure an "MMSC Routing" definition and make it the "Default Route".
