Hello, we're an existing NowSMS 2006 customer. Our engineer encountered an issue about "Send Voice Mail Notification" of NowSMS. Steps: 1. Use NowSMS to activate email and fax indication by submit a "set e-mail" or "set fax" notification, and then our phone receives emial or fax notification successfully. 2. Use NowSMS to deactivate email and fax indication by submit a "Clear email" or "Clear fax" notification. The actually result is that the phone there is no response after step2 and the email or fax indication still displays in the screen of phone. Our problem is that whether the email or fax indication received in step1 should be cleared from the screen of phone after step2? Could you help us to identify and troubleshoot this issue? Hi Tony, Depending on which version of NowSMS 2006 you are running, you might see some slightly different encoding of these messages. And also, depending on version, if you're using a GSM modem to send the messages out, some modems may refuse to send some of the notifications that we send out. (Check your SMSOUT-yyyymmdd.LOG to see if some messages are failing to be sent out.) If you're running a version earlier than 2006.10.30, then download http://www.nowsms.com/download/patch2006.zip for an update. (There are more recent updates and patches to address specific issues, but 2006.10.30 is what we are currently shipping, so it's a good point of reference for me.) Now let me explain what's involved with the "Clear fax" or "Clear e-mail" notification messages. And I'll also explain what might be different in newer versions of NowSMS, compared to older versions. Clear Fax is going to have a DCS of C1. This indicates that the message is a message waiting indicator group message whose contents should be automatically discarded after processing ... and that the fax waiting indicator should be set inactive. Theoretically, that should be enough to turn off notification. Early versions of NowSMS would simply send out a blank message with this indicator set. But some GSM modems did not like a blank message (and some SMS service providers might not as well), so that's why I'd recommend the 2006.10.30 version. To address this blank message issue, and for consistency with newer notification types like video message waiting ... we also began including UDH for "Special SMS Message Indication" for the type (i.e., fax or e-mail), with a message count of 0. (Indicating that the message count is 0 is how you clear a notification when you use the UDH method.) Hopefully this information will give you more to go on for troubleshooting.
