Hi Bryce, i have a question if a mail is coming into nowsms is it possible to just ignore certain emails on a subject basis if i for instance would send an email from a phone ( with nowsms mmsc setup properly ) to a none existing email address i would get a delivery failure mail back i would like to only get normal mailmessages sent from the internet to be converted to mms and then "mms notification" is it possible to just ignore messages based on the subject line or so i know the exact subject line i would get if a mail delivery problem occurs grtz, Paul

Paul, No, there is not a way to do this, without setting up some other type of mail server that filtered the mail before relaying it to NowSMS. SMTP virus scanners and spam filters often have this type of capability. You would point the MX record to the filter which would initially receive the SMTP mail, and it then relays it to NowSMS. Unfortunately, I'm not experienced with any of these sort of filter programs myself. I know they exist, but that's about it. I have another idea though. In this situation, couldn't you also filter based upon the sender? You should receive an MMS pre-auth accounting callback of the "MMSEMail" type. And the "from" field should be set in that header, so you could choose to deny the message at that level. Note that the "from" field in this instance corresponds to the "MAIL FROM:" header in the SMTP envelope, which is not always the same as what appears in the actual e-mail header. So you may need to do some experimentation to see what values you are seeing there. -bn

darn bryce, you ARE GOOOOOOOD never thought of that ;-) small question is it possible to convert / extract a mms file so web viewable files are created ( a smil file can be viewed within explorer if renamed to htm i believe ;-) ) grtz, Paul

Hi Paul, I'm not aware of any good ways to convert/extract a binary MMS file. The only approach that I was able to think of was that "MMSC Routing" trick yesterday, where the external messages would get routed via MM7, and you could extract the MIME contents from that post. Maybe the very latest versions of IE can support SMIL. But I don't think so. On my system, it tries to launch Real Audio ... and if I try to remove Real Audio, I still can't get IE to open the SMIL file. So I'm not so sure about this, but it is possible that Real Audio has screwed up my system ... -bn |
