Besides the recemmended CDMA modem (like the Multitech), can I use the broadbank access PC card which can ben purchased from local Verizon Wireless store for setting up the Now SMS/MMS gateway?

Thanks alot.

Hi,

I'm not aware of any CDMA PC cards that support an AT command set for sending/receiving SMS.

There is a standard command set defined for GSM/WCDMA by ETSI/3GPP (ETSI GSM 07.05 / 3GPP TS 27.005). But to the best of my knowledge, 3GPP2 and its predecessor organisations have never defined such a standard for the CDMA environment.

You could theoretically configure such a card for sending MMS (but not receiving it), if you know the MMSC settings for Verizon ... and if you can get the phone number associated with the card provisioned for MMS with the operator.

But SMS funcationality is not likely to work, because this AT command set is not implemented by the modem.

(If you wanted to try sending MMS only, then you could define a dummy SMSC connection to NowSMS. Just pick HTTP and put in the address of any web site. If you try to send an SMS, NowSMS will issue a URL request to the specified web site, but of course, no SMS would actually be sent.

Define the MMSC connection under "MMSC Routing", the type would be "MM1" via an operator MMSC, and you would need the relevant settings to connect to a proxy and MMSC at the mobile operator.)
