Hi,

I found Nowsms in a web search, it seems to do what I want, but I am unable to make it work.

What we want to do is page our staff with important messages. The idea is that any can send an email to phonenumbner@sms.domain.com and then nowsms will covert it and send it.

Tell me if this won't do what I want. Pls!

I have setup two domains with MX entries. mms.domain.com and sms.domain.com. I have also created an entry for the user called test.

When our SMTP server sends an Email to this gateway we get a 550 Recp. not Auth. error message. I saw in the forums about putting an entry in the INI file, SMTPIPAUTH=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - We did this and it did not work.

Has any got a tip or a quick fix or setup guide!

Thanks!

I have a Motorola 388c GSM phone with data cable (works well with the operator SMS Centre!!!!). I want to test sending and receiving of SMSs via te NowSMS gateway but setting up the SMS connection has failed. Any advice out there?

Hi Simon,

I really do need to write up a guide for this functionality.

I think you are close to having things setup, just that the keyword in the MMSC.INI file (under the [MMSC] header) is SMTPIPAddressList= ... not SMTPIPAUTH=.

Here's a link to a thread that describes this setting:

http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/460.html

If it was a typo in your e-mail message, and you are using the SMTPIPAddressList= setting, but it is not working, then I would suggest the following:

1.) Make sure that you restart the MMSC service after making changes in the MMSC.INI file. (This setting is only read at startup.)

2.) Check the MMSC-yyyymmdd.LOG file. When the message is rejected, a log entry should be written, and it should include the IP address from which the message came. Perhaps the IP address is different from what you were expecting.

A few other notes ...

It is not necessary to use this setting if you provision all of the phone numbers that can receive messages through the gateway in the "MMSC Users" list.

If you want users to be able to reply back, you can define a "2-way" command. Define the "SMS Command Prefix" as "*". Specify the "Command to Execute" as "mailto:@@SMSPREFIX@@". "Command returns response text" should not be checked. SMS users can then send a message into the gateway with the e-mail address to send a message to as the first non-blank text of the message (e.g., send a message with the text "user@domain.com This is a message from SMS", and "This is a message from SMS" will be sent to "user@domain.com").

Victor,

What is the error that you receive?

I'm not sure about the Motorola 388c, but my experience has been that very few Motorola handsets have inbuilt GSM modem functionality.
