We are running the newest version of NowSMS (v2008.06.03) and we have noticed that the CPU usage on our server is running very high at times. Normally it runs at about 3.4 ghz sending about 4000 MMS & 5000 SMS messages a day. At times however the mmsc.exe process on the server will run at 100% using aprox 11.5 ghz. If we reboot the server then the processor load goes back down. We tried disabling the anti-virus and it made no difference. Is this common with this amount of messages being processed? Also, is there a fix for the mmsc.exe process from pegging out the CPU? Let me know if you need any log files. Thanks, Jon | |||

Hi Jon, There have been a couple of instances of high CPU utilisation issues with MMSC.EXE ... however, they have not been resolved by restarts. Generally, they have been routing issues where NowSMS was confused because there was no path to route the MMS message. We made changes to the 2009 update to address this. However, this problem was not a problem that would go away with a restart. (Upon restart, the same messages were still present.) So, something else must be going on in your configuration. How many outbound MMSC routes do you have defined? How long after a restart does the problem typically restart? Can you open a command prompt window and go to Program Files\NowSMS (or ProgramData\NowSMS in Windows Vista or Windows 2008 Server), then type DIR /S > DIR.TXT ... and e-mail the DIR.TXT file to nowsms@nowsms.com with "Attention: Des" in the subject line of the message. I would like to see if I notice anything unusual in the directory list. Also, attach your SMSGW.INI and MMSC.INI files. -- Des NowSMS Support |
