Whilst using NowSMS for receiving MMS I've noticed the following in the SMSout-<date>.log

2004-02-11 16:45:16,System,,Sierra Wireless AirCard GPRS Modem,Modem Failure -- Unable to access modem, ensure that it is powered on and passes diagnostic tests.

this has been occuring fairly constantly, I am running the latest Aircard firmware and drivers (3.2) and the GPRS connection (xp) shows that the GPRS connection has been up for hours, could it be that the latest drivers from Sierra wireless have an incompatibilty with NowSMS ? or should I look elsewhere ?

On a different note I would welcome this board being made into a registered users only board, the amount of spam is severely affecting the signal to noise ratio

The signal to noise ratio is pretty high. I usually get out here and delete junk, but I haven't had time recently. (And it amazes me how much of the junk is from people who take the time to register. I don't understand what they think they are registering for.)

We do want to try to keep this as open as possible, but we may have to open a private support forum in the future. We'll have to see how things progress.

On the problem that you are experiencing ...

If you shutdown the NowSMS services ... are you able to Query the modem from "Diagnostics" in the modem section of "Phone & Modem Options" in the Control Panel.

I only updated my Aircard to 3.2 in the last week or two (was running some 3.1.x release). So far I've only noticed a bug fixed on receiving SMS with an alphanumeric sender, I haven't seen this, but perhaps I should try stress testing it a little harder.

I hadn't tried that as I haven't been able to "trap" it when its occured, it does appear to recover from it as during the day that I noticed it it continued to receive mms (and my extension, sms) so whether it was resetting I haven't been unab;e to find out, and yes I know I'm not being very helpful :-( another thing that I noticed was thet the connection the the system try kept showing "connected" as if the GPRS link kept going down and coming back up again, so I wonder if it is mode switching.

I'll try and watch it for a few hours over the weekend and see if I can trap i in the "failed" mode

Since the card doesn't really need to mode switch, maybe the signal is weak where you have the modem setup.

I know that I frequently have this problem in my office. When this happens to me the symptom is like you say, where the GPRS link looks like it has been up and down. The signal seems better when moved outside of my little cave ...
