Hello,

I was struggling getting anything sent with from my box with Sierra Wireless MC8775 modem and nowsms. However, I found this post which pointed me in the right direction:
http://blog.nowsms.com/2009/03/sierra-wireless-881-usb-modem-881u-and.html

It correctly stated that I would be able to send SMS by directly referencing the COM port in SMSC panel of the nowsms gateway. Also, the post was correct that I could not send MMS messages with the modem configured this way.

Unfortunately, the solution to this problem that appeared in the post did not work for me. I installed the default windows drivers for a standard 336000 bps modem on the Sierra Modem. Now, when I try to add the device in the SMSC panel, I get an error that the modem is in use by another application. Also when I query the modem in the Windows modem control panel it returns “the modem failed to respond...” I have tried several different COM ports and this only happens when I install the default 336000 driver on the modem.

Thanks for looking into it!

Hi Evan,

Stop the NowSMS service.

Remove the COM port from the SMSC list in NowSMS.

Test the modem in the Windows Control Panel.

Assuming that it now tests ok, add the modem to the SMSC list by the driver name instead.
