Hi Patrick,

When you configure NowSMS to use a network connection instead of a dial-up modem connection, NowSMS does not have control to specify the APN to be used.

In this case, the Sierra Wireless software has configured the APN.

My guess is that the Sierra Wireless software is configured to use internet.com as the APN, which is the APN that you would use for internet browsing.

However, for MMS connectivity, you need to use the media.com APN.

There are two options:

1.) Reconfigure the Sierra Wireless software to connect to the media.com APN.

2.) Disable the Sierra Wireless software from auto-connecting, and configure NowSMS to use the "Modem:" entry as the "Network Connection:" for MMS access.

I attempt 2) and I end up with:
Connection Failed
RAS Error 734
The PPP link control protocol was terminated

Make sure the Sierra software does not have a connection active. If it does, the modem will not allow a second connection to be active, and the result can be reported as RAS Error 734.

Unfortunately, RAS Error 734 is tough to troubleshoot. It basically just means that the data connection failed.

Looking back over past incidents, here is what I see regarding this error:

a.) It's temporary ... possibly signal strength related ... occurs sporadically.

b.) The GPRS APN or username/password is wrong.

c.) The device doesn't have access to the GPRS APN.

I'd check "c" first. If you got the SIM with the data card, the operator might not have provisioned it for MMS support ... assuming that you were using the modem for internet access only.

Put the SIM card into a phone, and verify that you can send/receive MMS using the SIM in a phone. If this doesn't work, you need to use a different SIM or get your operator to allow MMS from your SIM.

Assuming that's ok, there have been a number of times where NowSMS could not override a GPRS APN pre-configured in the modem for some unknown reason. In this case, it would be worth going back to "1" in my earlier reply ... configure the Sierra software to use media.com as the APN instead of internet.com.

I attempted C) and the MMS was sent and received correctly

When I input the following into the Sierra Software:
User Name: media
Password: mda01
APN: media.com

I end up with a invalid username or password message

It seems I now need to use rogers-core-appl1.apn as the APN instead of media.com
With that change it is back to being good.

Very interesting.

I was out of ideas, so I'm glad you found these alternate settings.
