Hi,

When I try to send mms to email, mmsc doesn't try
to connect to SMTP relay host, instead it tries to send sms message to email.
Here is strings from smscout log:

I hope I can help.
you said "you send mms to email", are you referring to
1. NowSMS connecting with operator with MM4 and forward the MMS to mobile phone via SMTP ? or
2. receiving MMS from operator (also via MM4) and trying to deliver the MMS to an email account? or
3. other ??

What I can say is that both 1. and 2. work on me and there should not be a problem if no mistake in configuration.

David,

How are you submitting this MMS to e-mail message?

Patrick, Bryce,
I'm not using MM4, I'm just submitting mms from phone.

I found one more strange behavour:
I changed SMTP server ip address, and pressed apply. mms2email started work. After I pressed ok and i tried to send one more mms2sms. It failed again (mmsc tried to send it via SMPP link).
Than I reverted to old SMTP server and pressed apply: as a result mms2email worked again.
Looks very strange, but mmsc doesn't like pressing OK (?!)

David

David,

I can't see where the OK would make a difference. It would restart the service, but that's about it.

Let's get a debug log for this, as this really has me confused.

Edit the MMSC.INI file, and under the [MMSC] section header, add Debug=Yes. Then restart the NowSMS MMSC service.

Send your message again.

Then I'd like to see the MMSCDEBUG.LOG. Either post it here, or e-mail it to nowsms@now.co.uk and reference this thread.

All I can think of is that maybe the MMS client on the phone is formatting the e-mail address as a phone number. If the MMS client specified the recipient address as "datoch@xxx.ge/TYPE=PLMN", then that might cause the type of behaviour that you describe.

Of course, the phone should not add /TYPE=PLMN to an e-mail address, as that suffix is only used with phone numbers. But my suspicion is that this is what is happening. But I'd like to see the MMSCDEBUG.LOG to know for sure.

Bryce,

Unfortunately, I was unable to reproduce situation.
As a comment to your opinion, that maybe phone doesn't formatting mms properly:
I tried two different SE T610 phones, with different SW versions. In both cases I got error described earlier.

I really haven't clue whats going on with apply/ok key press sequence. Yes, it sounds strange, but that's what I got.

Anyway, Everything works well now, I will let you know if error reapear (with debug logs).
Thanks Bryce.

David,

It looks like a bug in the phone. The phone is submitting a message with a recipient address of "zbeselia@magtigsm.ge/TYPE=PLMN".

The "/TYPE=PLMN" suffix is an indicator that the recipient should be interpreted as a phone number.

And, of course, that is incorrect. But since the phone tells us it is a phone number, we try to process it as such.

I can't make my T610 do this. It won't let me enter anything but numbers if I say that I am sending to a phone number. And I say it is an e-mail address, then this suffix never gets added.

I'm curious if you can recreate it, or if this just seems to happen sporadically.

I discussed this with one of my colleagues, and we don't see any problem with looking for this type of situation, and just ignoring the "/TYPE=PLMN" in this type of situation.

Unfortunately, it is tough to test this change, since we can't recreate it.

If you've found a way to recreate this, I'd like to send you an update to try.

Bryce,

As long as problem appears sporadically, I can't recreate it myself.
I have few T610 test phones (some of them have same SW version). When one phone fail to send mms2mail, other one (with same sw version) sends.
Seems like phone problems.

If you could make workaround as you described, it will be great.

/I discussed this with one of my colleagues, and we don't see any problem with looking for this type of situation, and just ignoring the "/TYPE=PLMN" in this type of situation./

Thanks,
David

Hi David,

A belated update. We are implementing this change.

Basically, if the recipient address includes an "@" character, and the "/TYPE=PLMN" string, we will remove the "/TYPE=PLMN" string, and treat it like an e-mail address.

We had hoped to post this update last week, but we are waiting to include some additional minor changes and fixes. It is most likely that we will put out a minor update toward the end of next week.
