Been testing a bit. Haven't had the time yet for a good run of the beta yet.
But i have been trying to download mms via gprs and i cannot make it work.
The mms notification comes in right, and nowsms puts a file in the MMSINQ folder.
But from here nothing happends.
If i look in the smsdebug.log, nowsms constantly tries to retrieve the mms but is unsuccessfull.
Now i am not saying it is nowsms that has the error at all. No i think its my setup but i am not 100% sure.
See the way the dansih telcos are doing the mms setups on the phones, is giving them a local IP to download the mms from. In my telco i have to download mms from here: http://192.168.241.114:8002

Now i have that setup right in the phone itself, and in nowsms i do this:

I have a smsc called COM1 which is a Siemens gprs modem on my COM1 port.
I press properties in nowsms under smsc.
Then i press the mms settings button.
In the field; MMS Server URL i type this: 192.168.241.114:8002
I do NOT flag the Use specific Net configuration (GPRS modem). Am i right or wrong ?
Thats my problem. Should this be flagged or not? And why ?
If i flag it, i can select "local area connection" in the Network configuration field.
Now why would i need to do that ?
Is this not only used if you have a dialup thing setup on your server ?

I know my writing can be a bit confusing to read, but as i said, i have not had the time yet to really test it, but will do so within days

Hi Lars,

It is a bit confusing. But basically, in most configurations, we are using dial-up networking to send/receive over a GPRS modem. (With some PC cards, it is not necessary to use dial-up networking ... but dial-up networking is definitely required for any external GPRS modem device.)

You need to create a dial-up networking profile to make a GPRS connection over the modem.

See "Receiving Messages from an Operator MMSC" in http://www.nowsms.com/beta5/guide.htm, and then follow the link to Configuring Dial-up Networking to Make a GPRS connection.

Basically, you'll need to create a Dial-up Networking Profile in Windows that uses the GPRS modem.

Then in NowSMS, you check "Use Specific Network Connection (GPRS Modem)".

Under "Network Connection", you select the name of the Dial-up networking profile that you created. (You'll notice that we also show your LAN card connections here as well. Some PC Card GPRS connections appear as LAN cards.)

You also need to specify the "WAP Gateway IP Address" for the mobile operator's WAP gateway (many operators have different gateways for regular WAP traffic vs. MMS traffic, be sure to use the one for MMS).

And in "Modem Used", select "COM1:". (This tells us that whenever we need to use the GPRS connection, the SMS gateway must release the modem.)

Then be sure to select "Test Connection" before you save the settings. When you test the connection, NowSMS will initiate the specified dial-up networking connection, and verify that it can make a connection to the WAP gateway over that connection.

Ok i see.
Remember that i use at Siemens MC35 external GPRS modem, and not a phone.
I have read your url: http://www.nowsms.com/beta5/DialUpGPRS.htm

But when i try to dial up windows2000 returns a error that there is something wrong with the modem.
The i remove the line in the modem; AT+CGDCONT=1,"194.182.251.015","mms"

Then it works better, but not 100%
It connects to the network, but after connected it returns with this error: Error 734 The PPP link control protocol was terminated

Now i have a Ipaq and a Nokia 7650 that speaks perfectly together over bluetooth, where my n7650 dials up exactly as you describe on the above url.
But when trying via the siemens MC35 nothing works.

I talked to Siemens today.
They said that there is no modemdriver for MC35. They recommend that i install it as a default 19200 modem.
So thats how i have done it now.

Ok. That's good. I'm glad you figured that out.

I think we're going to look at issuing this AT+CGDCONT command automatically in the future, as it is a bit confusing to get setup.

Have tried to connect GPRS with two modems, the Ericsson GM48 and Motorola G18. In both instances, I get the same error Error 734 The PPP link control protocol was terminated, as Posted on Thursday, July 24, 2003 - 12:13 am:

The APN parameters used are:
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","IMOVIL.ENTELPCS.CL", being ENTELPCS.CL the local carrier.

If anybody has a suggestion to correct the situation, will appreciate a message to sistema@intelnet.cl

THANK YOU

Are you using NowSMS?

If so, you can disregard this thread, as this information applied to a beta release, and it is not necessary to enter this type of configuration information in the release version of 5.0.

The error that you are getting from dial-up networking is common when you do not specify the correct username or password. For your carrier, I believe you need to specify a username and password of "entelpcs".

If you are an individual user, my recommendation would be to just use Nokia's PC Suite software for the 7210 to connect to the phone from a PC with Bluetooth.

You can find information on the Nokia web site under the "Software" section for the 7210.
