hy bryce,
First i want to thank you for your support.
Now, one question please:

I understand that in order to receive a MMS to a mobile phone:
1.i receive a notification from NOWSMS (SMS wich contains a wap/push) wich tells me where is the URL of the MMS
2. I connect to a WAP gateway in order to get this MMS.
3. I display the MMS on the phone

what i don't understand is why should i connect to a WAP gateway in order to get the MMS?
Why i don't connect dirrectly (through HTTP) to NowSMS server in order to get the MMS? (so the question is what i need a WAP gateway)

thanks in advance,
razvan

Hi razvan,

Apologies for the delay in responding to you.

It depends on whether or not your MMS client will be used in live operator environments against an operator MMSC, or if it is only for a specialised environment.

Basically, most mobile operators will only allow connections to their MMSC when they are routed via a proxy on the operator network.

(The proxy can provide some additional validation for identifying the user, and might provide some accounting.)

In most environments, a WAP proxy (i.e., WAP gateway) is used. In many cases, these proxies have been updated to also work as an HTTP proxy, which may simplify your task.

Connecting directly via HTTP will definitely work in a test environment with NowSMS ... but you will want to at least provide an option to connect via an HTTP proxy for a live network deployment. (At this point, I would say that most of the major operators will now support the HTTP proxy option, but this time last year that was not the case, and WAP protocols had to be used.)
