I have sent a couple of MMS to nowsms 5 now. I took some pictures with a Nokia 7650 which takes pictures in 640x480 pixels. When nowsms has received the mms i open the image that was in the mms, but the size of it is now only 160x120 Is it nowsms that resizes the mage, or is it the MMSC ? This is actually very important if you really want to use the retrieval of mms seriously.

It would likely be the MMSC. I'd be curious if you got different results through different MMSCs. Although I think there is also a setting in the phone that specifies what resolution to send when sending images via MMS. I'll have to play around with my 3650 to see.

I'll be testing too. Maybe it is the mmsc, i dont know. I will be testing some Sonyericssons tonight to see how they behave when nowsms unpacks them. ;)Lars

Lars, An idea ... Check Messages->Options->Settings->Multimedia Message ... make sure that Image Size is set to Large. -bn

I know that setting and it is set to large. But it still does it. Maybe the telco has decided that if everybody sends pictures in 640x480, they will get heavy loaded. But the again maybe not. They have to receive it to resize it, and to resize it they will use som extra server power. Well i dont know, but intend to find out by calling some contacts. Just tried from a SonyErr. t310. The pic was only 101x80 so it was not resized by anyone.

Your teouble is not a trouble. See WAP Forum documentation on MMS. You'll find that MMSC SHOULD convert all pictures to 160x120 if it larger. That's because this size will be readable on any mobile phone.

Then why would anyone put a camera with higher resolution in a mobile phone? FWIW, I do not see where the OMA states that an "MMSC SHOULD convert all pictures to 160x120 if larger". If you could provide a direct reference to a specification, that would be helpful. I can see that in the MMS Conformance Document, it states that "The maximum image resolution for which interoperability is guaranteed is 160x120 pixels." I do not interpret that as saying the same thing as the "MMSC SHOULD convert all pictures to 160x120 if larger". Perhaps there is another reference that you are reading? I am wondering, however, if maybe we should create a UAProf for NowSMS that specifies a larger image size? I could see an argument that if no UAProf is specified, the MMSC may have default behaviour to scale images down to the maximum image size that is guaranteed for interoperability. -bn
