Hi guys,
Some times, I can't send out SMS, the error dialogue is:
'Warning: SMS message could not be sent to &&&&&&&, ERROR - Modem Response (2); Start to send...Send failed, current modem state is :0 MODEM ERROR:207.

What's the problem? How can I fix it?

Many thanks~~~

Hi Ning,

What modem is this?

This does not appear to be any standard type of modem error code, but rather something specific to this particular modem.

The text after "ERROR - Modem Response (2):" is text that is actually returned by the modem itself. The error text that you are seeing is very unusual.

If a service restart fixes the problem ... then it is likely that the act of disconnecting from the modem and then reconnecting is triggering a soft reset in the modem that allows it to recover.

We've added a number of techniques in recent versions to try to recover modems that are in an unstable state like this.

After a modem error is returned, we send a variety of commands to try to determine if the modem is ok. If the modem does not appear to be ok, we send a hard reset command to the modem.

If 50 consecutive errors have been returned when sending messages, we will also send a hard reset command to the modem.

So, I'd ask what version you're running right now. If it's a version with a date before 2010, then downloading an update might help.

I'm also investigating to see if we can add a configuration parameter to reduce the error count before performing a reset to less than 50 errors. I believe 50 is currently a fixed setting.

Thank you very much, Des~

The modem is a Motorola mobile phone, it's been used as modem for over 3 years, and had no such error before...
Almost suddenly, the SMS has error 207 and WAP PUSH&XML messages can't be sent...The error shows it's SMSC interface is not available...

The 2 errors may share the same reason per your words, that's the modem issue...I tired another 2 kinds of mobile phones, the result is the same, SMS worked, WAP PUSH failed. Please let me know your ideas~

Our version is 2006.3.9. I can't update to newer edition with current license...

Many thanks in advance AND Looking forward to your reply~~

Hi Des,
I borrowed a modem from another NowSMS user, and tried on my NowSMS, if I choose to send a WAP PUSH, it's shown in the 'SMSWEB-20100225.LOG' and 'SMSOUT-20100225.LOG'. But cell phone can't receive it, and it's not listed in folder'Q', nor in gateway's 'Event Log'....what does this mean?

I attach the SMSDEBUG.LOG, SMSOUT-20100225.LOG, and SMSWEB-20100225.LOG for your referrence.

Many thanks and looking forward to your reply~

Hi Saprina,

Motorola phone modems are notorious for not supporting WAP Push or any other binary message sending via the GSM modem interface. There is a bug in the GSM modem implementation on these devices where they do not understand sending any messages that include user data header (UDH).

It is likely that the old Motorola phone modem that you were using did not have this bug, so it worked for 3 years. But almost every Motorola phone modem that I have seen since the first RAZR has had this UDH bug. When this bug occurs, you will see CMS ERROR 304.

For your old phone modem, have you tried performing a factory reset on the device? If it worked for over 3 years, then it may just be that memory is corrupt in the phone and a factory reset might fix the problem.

For the newer phone modem (is it COM1?) ... where text messages work ok, but push messages disappear, I would try swapping SIMs with the old modem to make sure it is not a SIM issue (unlikely, but worth a try).

These look like US numbers ... is the SIM on the new phone modem using the same mobile operator network? Cross-operator WAP Push over GSM modems is not supported by US mobile operators.
