Seems like currently if sending a basic WAP push message via the Web interface it is send by default with utf-8 as char. set and WBXML version 1.2 . What if I want the message to be send with char set iso-8859-1 and WBXML v. 1.1? what and where in the INI file do I have to set? I think I found the char setting in the menu structure but please confirm that its under the SMSC advanced settings. For the WBXML I don't know how to change it. your help is appriciated Thanks

Hi, The "SMSC character set" setting applies to text messages only, so it won't do what you want. Our WAP push compiler currently does not have any settings to override the WBXML version or character set. I'm submitting an engineering request to evaluate the difficulty of adding a configuration setting to allow these values to be overridden. Changing the character set to "iso-8859-1" is likely a simple task. However, I don't know if there are any encoding rules that we need to consider for differences between WBXML v1.1 and v1.2. Can I ask why you need WBXML v1.1 and character set iso-8859-1? Is it for compatibility reasons with a particular device? Or is it some odd conformance test? -- Des NowSMS Support

Hi, it would be great if you could implement a character set selection for WAP push. Yes we are using nowsms for some conformance testing in CDMA and for the most part it works well for our needs but this is one item which is required as well. As for the WBXML this is are requirement but I can double check how much its needed. But I know some of our network still use version 1.1 and we need to verify against that if possible. Thanks

Hi Stone, I wanted to post a follow-up on this. We've made the WBXML version number configurable and added an option to set the WAP Push character set to iso-8859-1. This affects only SI and SL WAP Push messages submitted via the web interface or via URL parameter submission. (It does not affect messages submitted via PAP or via XML settings.) To set the WBXML version, edit SMSGW.INI and under the [SMSGW] section header, add WAPPushWBXMLVersion=1.1. To specify iso-8859-1 as the WAP Push character set, use WAPPushUseUTF8=No in the [SMSGW] section of SMSGW.INI. These settings are enabled in version 2010.03.01, which can be downloaded at http://www.nowsms.com/download/nowsmsinterim.zip. -- Des NowSMS Support

Hi Des, Excellent. Thank you for the quick turn around. We will test this and let you know if we have any further issues.

A follow-up. I understand that colleagues of Stone's have been asking for this support to be extended to WAP Push SI, SL and CO messages submitted via XML documents (web or PAP). The above settings were extended to apply to all WAP Push SI, SL and CO messages effective with version 2010.03.10, which can be downloaded at http://www.nowsms.com/download/nowsmsinterim.zip. -- Des NowSMS Support |
