Hi, Bryce, I got a little progress with the NOWSMS gateway, but more questions. I could use my Nokia 7650 to receive MMS, which is submitted on the web interface. That's fine. But I send from the phone, and still cannot get anything in the MMS-IN dir. I could only got notification in the SMS-IN dir. It looks like this: [SMS-IN] ModemName=Standard 56000 bps Modem Sender=1888186 PhoneNumber=+6593777367 Data= Binary=0 Then I took the Singtel (Singapore operator) SIM card from the modem and put it into the phone. The mobile phone started to retrieved the MMS message, which is intended to be sent to the PC. I got confused. Is there still some problem with the settings? I put the Singtel operator for the 'MMS Setings' under 'SMSC', and choose the 'default route' as Singtel under 'MMSC Routing'. In my case, does the gateway also function as an external MMSC or just a gateway? By the way, is it necessary to tick the checkbox of 'Activate MMSC Service' under "MMSC'? Really need help. Thanks a lot.

The MMSC Service does not need to be active for this. I guess I'd like to see an SMSDEBUG.LOG to try to understand what is actually coming in to the modem. It looks like you are receiving a blank SMS message instead of an actual MMS notification. I wonder if there is perhaps a problem with either how NowSMS is parsing this particular notification, or if there is a problem with the modem. What type of modem are you using? To enable the SMSDEBUG.LOG, manually edit SMSGW.INI, and under the [SMSGW] section header, add Debug=Yes. Then restart the NowSMS service.

Hi Yanxiang, This doesn't make any sense. For whatever reason, you are actually receiving a blank SMS message. The message that you should receive would be a bianry message with MMS notification data. What happens if you take the SIM and put it into a phone that does not support MMS. What happens when you then send an MMS to that phone number? Also, back to the modem with the Wavecom attached ... using NowSMS ... try to send an MMS notification to the phone number of the modem, with the notification URL being http://www.nowsms.com/download/btmms.mms. I'm wondering if the modem will see that notification properly ... to attempt to determine whether this is a modem problem, or something peculilar about Singtel MMS service. -bn

Hi, Bryce, I tried to use NowSMS web interface to send an MMS notification to the phone number of the modem, with the notification URL being http://www.nowsms.com/download/btmms.mms. But it said 'Error Unable to fetch the URL' Any idea? I attached the debug files.

The URL is vvalid, so I'm not sure why you are unable to fetch it ... unless maybe you are behind a proxy server for web access? Unfortunately we don't have a way to configure a proxy server for validating URLs like this. Although, if you have the v5.50d update (http://www.nowsms.com/download/nowsms550d.zip), there is an additional URL parameter that tells NowSMS not to try to validate a URL when submitting an MMS notification. You'd issue the command: http://server:port/?Phonenumber=xxxxx&MMSURL=www.nowsms.com/download/btmms.mms&M MSURLValidate=No That MMSURLValidate=No tells NowSMS that it doesn't need to validate the URL, just send out a notification that points to it. I still think it is worth trying this. I am curious to see if the modem receives this notification correctly, or if it also appears as a blank message. The issue basically seems to be that instead of an MMS notification message over SMS, you are receiving an SMS message that is completely blank. The question is ... is this happening because the modem is corrupting the SMS that contains the MMS notification (maybe there is something unusual about the notification generated by the operator) ... or is the operator MMSC doing a real time lookup on your device and because of that lookup sending you an invalid message. I'm leaning toward suspecting an issue with the modem ... maybe a firmware version issue ... or who knows what else. I would suggest trying to get a firmware update ... and if there is anyway you can get your hands on a different modem to try, I would recommend that.

Yanxiang, Make sure that you're using v5.51, and that you don't actually have a space character in the URL. (MMSURLValidate is all one word.) In the posting above, it appears that the discussion board software is inserting extra space characters into long URLs. The Wavecom modems are quite common, so I wouldn't expect the receive problem is specific to the modem ... although it could be a problem with the modem on that particular operator. I'd try to get an alternative modem ... and/or a SIM card with an alternative operator. (I searched my archives for references to Singtel, and I didn't see any incidents other than you and I believe a colleague of yours, who were trying to receive messages via Singtel. But in the process, I did see incidents from people who were successfully receiving MMS from Starhub.)

Hi, Bryce, So sad, the free trial version has reached its expiry date. Since we are urgent to solve this receiving MMS problem. If it is able to receive the MMS in the directory, definitely we will purchase your software. Since the gateway is expected to run a particular PC, so could you give me some means to extend its expiry days (maybe for one more month?) so that we could do more testin. We really want to solve the problem. Thanks a lot. Regards, Yanxiang

Hi,Bryce, I tried the url again and it still shows Error: Unable to fetch URL: http://www.nowsms.com/download/btmms.mms By the way, could you help me find out who successfully received MMS using Starhub? I would like to contact that person. And what are the SETTINGS for the Starhub operator, since I tried that SIM card, but still didn't work. So there is maybe something wrong with the settings, I think. Your help will be so valuable to me. I really appreciate it. Thanks a lot. Regards, Yanxiang |
