Is it possible to force NowSMS MMSC not to handle messages where recipient is email address (x@y.z) but instead apply routing rule and forward message to other MMSC?
Right now NowSMS MMSC is forwarding only messages where recipient is a phone number but always handles messages where recipient is email address.

Generally speaking, no.

If the recipient is an e-mail address, NowSMS is always going to route it via SMTP to the configured SMTP relay host.

Can I ask why you want to do this?

We are using NowSMS to receive messages and then route them to other MMSCs. We don't want to do any deliveries as other MMSC may do some additional processing of the message before sending it out (to phone or email).

So, if I understand you correctly, you would like to have the ability, in the "MMSC Outbound Routing" to define a recipient pattern match that would cause e-mail recipients to also get routed via the MMSC? (For example, a mask of *@* to route all e-mail recipients via that route, or *@domain to match a particular domain.)

If NowSMS received an MMS message, any e-mail recipients would also get checked against any outbound routing masks that included an "@" symbol.

Is that what you're looking for?

Basically, right now, we don't do that. I can have development look into this to see how much time it would take to implement. I'm just hesitant to commit development resources to this without a stronger case for the need.

I'll see if we can't do a preliminary look though, as it might be easy ...

Hi Bruce,

That's exactly what we are looking for. In our case, we don't want to send a message to the end-user (phone or email), we just need to route message properly to other MMSCs.

For example, one use case is that other MMSC will 'recognize' email address as one of the registered users with MMS enabled phone and instead of converting MMS to email, it will just send MMS directly to the phone.

Fedja,

I'll see what we can do.

I'd ask you to send me an e-mail at nowsms@now.co.uk to follow-up on this.

We can probably do it, but it is tough to test all of the different permutations of message delivery. (What I mean by this is that all of the different combinations of MMSC type on the input and output side, introduce quite a few complications.) Send me an e-mail, and we'll see what we can do.
