Hello,

I'm trying to send MMS messages using MM1 and the GPRS-Modem feature for 2 days now. Now I have solved the problem and I don't know if the problem is a bug or a feature?

When sending a MMS to a user who is in the MMSC-User list the MMS wouldn't get pushed to the provider. Only a notification gets sent to the user. But if the user doesn't have the MMS-Settings of NowSMS, but the settings of the provider it can't download the MMS. If I delete this User from the MMSC-User list the MMS gets pushed to the provider and than to the user and it works.

We are using the MMSC-Users for the E-Mail to SMS feature but these users, doesn't have the MMS-settings of our NowSMS server.

My question is: what do I have to do if I want to send MMS-messages to a user which is in the MMSC-User list because of the E-Mail to SMS feature, but doesn't have the NOWSMS MMS-Settings?

Best Regards

Hi Christoph,

That is a feature.

We have customers using the product as an MMSC that rely on this functionality.

But I can see where this would cause a problem for the type of configuration that you describe.

It's really a case of the "MMSC Users" list being used for dual purposes.

We should be able to add an MMSC.INI file setting that disables the behaviour of always performing "MMSC direct delivery" of the MMS message for users defined in that "MMSC Users" list. It may take a few days to a week to get implemented, but relatively speaking, it's a simple change in our logic to add a configuration setting that would disable this part of the behaviour.

I'm going to put a note on my follow-up list to post a message when we have an update that would address this. But if you don't hear from me within a week or so, please feel free to send an e-mail to nowsms@now.co.uk as a follow-up.

Christoph,

An update on this issue. I've got an updated version of NowSMS that adds an MMSC.INI file setting to disable this behaviour. (DisableMMSDirectDelivery=Yes under the [MMSC] header.)

However, this version is not yet ready for general release. To get this update, please send an e-mail message to nowsms@now.co.uk with a subject that says "Attention: Bryce - send update", and I will e-mail the update file to you.

Follow-up.

The above described setting will be a standard feature in NowSMS releases after v5.51.

A patch for v5.51 to add support for this setting is available at the following URL:

Bryce, what does this mean:
2004-10-27 20:58:38,SAR-6XX0X0X0-d4-2-2.req,lX@moXilenation.dk,X13X4X50,OK -- Standardmodem, 19200 bps,SubmitUser=localsystem-mmsc
taken from the SMSOUT[date].log

The question was:
what do I have to do if I want to send MMS-messages to a user which is in the MMSC-User list because of the E-Mail to SMS feature, but doesn't have the NOWSMS MMS-Settings?

Is the answer for that to do this in MMSC.ini:
DisableMMSDirectDelivery=Yes

I know it might be me that's confused.
As i see it there are 2 ways of sending mms messages. One way is to create and put the mms file on local nowsms server, and make nowsms sendd a mms notification. But in these times where all the operators have firewalled everytihng, its just not possible. So the second way, which is the one i am trying to make work, is to make nowsms create the mms file, and make nowsms send it through a connected modem, as if it was a regular mobile phone. Then the file would be on the operators server and it would work fine.

Pls. tell me if i am far out here ;-)

Hi Lars,

Right.

That setting should be the answer (together with the updated version which will recognise the setting).

Make sure that it is spelled right (it is above), and that it is under the [MMSC] section in the MMSC.INI file so that it will be recognised properly.

That should do it, as long as you have a routing defined in "MMSC Routing" to send messages out through the modem, and you have that route established as the default route.

Other than that, make sure that you did update the MMSC.EXE from the ZIP to the right directory (compare date time stamps).

Regarding the log entry, we've started adding some more info to the logs, specifically when a message is routed outbound to specify what account generated the message. For SMS messages that are generated by the MMSC, we needed to put something in this field, so we just specified "localsystem-mmsc".

Lars,

Just out of curiosity. What happens when you send an MMS message through the web interface. Try sending to a number on the "MMSC Users" list, and one that is not.

Bryce.

I actually made it work by creating a MM1 connection and updating the files. I demonstrated it to some media-folks that should make a campaign for SonyE. and they were wild ;-)

One small problem though. I tried to attach a 220Kb mp3 file. I think the operator rejected it which made nowsms trying to resend it quite many times. Actually my mmswapdebug.log ended up filling 98megabytes. So that leads me to a question that i thought i could find in this forum, but could not... Where do i set the RETRY amount of sending failed mms messages ?
