Bryce.
Someone asked you how to change the Email2MMS service to Email2MultimediaWapPush.

You wrote this answer: http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/485/4905.html

The [emaliaddress].wapush@mmsdomain works fine.
But the other solution just dont work.

Here is what i did:

Solution 1:
Under MMSC ROUTING i set the Default Route to: "Convert MMS to Multimedia Wap Push"
I sent an email to [emaliaddress]@mmsdomain
Nowsms did not convert it to MWP. It created a mms and sent out a MMS not.

Solution 2:
Under MMSC ROUTING i created a new route.
a) I set the "Default Sender Address" to the gsm modem i wanted to send it through.
b) I checked "Allow Sender Address Override"
c) I put an asterix (*) in Route messages to this account for recipient phone numbers). I also tried it removing the asterix.
d) I checked the "Convert to MWP

I set the Default Route to: My new route.
I sent an email to [emaliaddress]@mmsdomain
Nowsms did not convert it to MWP. It created a mms and sent out a MMS not.

Why ?
Am i forgetting something ?

Lars,

Make sure that the phonenumber is not defined in the "MMSC Users" list.

If it is, then NowSMS always sends the message out via direct delivery MMS, and ignores any routing information.

Of course, this logic makes sense when NowSMS is being used as an MMSC. But it does not make sense for many other configurations.

See the following thread for a discussion of this issue, and I just added a link to that thread where a patch can be downloaded that has a configuration setting that disables the above behaviour:

i'll install the patch and get back to you.

I actually did remove the user from the MMSC user list. But then nowsms rejected the email since the user was not on the mmsc list.

I think the problem here generally is that when nowsms sends a mms, it only send a mms notification and leaving the mms file on its own server. Instead it should send the mms via the modem so that the mms file would be on the operators server.
I know that you will have to make this optional since both methods have to be available. And i think you should make it an option under each SMSC that you create uin nowsms. If you make it a general rule for all the SMSC's in nowsms a lot of flexability goes down the drain ;-)

BTW.
Do u remember the thing about using a template-WML ? I have built some services on that now and they run perfect. Actually i am talking to one of the largest mobile manufacturers about making services for them. They were impressed on the things i could do with mobile services. And i only showed them some of the stuff i have made where nowsms is being used.

Lars,

It's probably worth also mentioning that there is a way to send e-mail to MMS (or WAP Push in this case) without having the user on the "MMSC Users" list.

We allow a configuration where you can specify that certain IP addresses are able to send such messages via the e-mail interface.

(Yes, this is all a bit confusing, but there are people with widely different configurations. And we also wanted to make sure we don't make it too easy to inadvertantly setup an open release.)

See the reference to the SMTPIPAddressList= parameter in the following thread:

http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/3451.html

But I'm more concerned about what you mentioned in the other thread, about this new setting not seeming to work for you.

I need to run more tests on that.

Oh, and P.S., I am glad to hear that the template WML is working well for you.

That is something that we need to better document.

I'm hoping that after we finish work on a few more new capabilities, that we can go back and add some of these tips and tricks to the documentation!
