Hi Bryce,
I am having problems receiving the MMS WAP OTA setting on my Nokia 6230, ut if i send the same settings to any other phone, they come through.
Do you know if the 6230 uses a different method to receive the settings and store them, or am I mising something?! :-)

Thanks for your help,
Nathan

Just to add to this post, I can send an MMS through the web interface and my 6230 receives it fine.

Hi Nathan,

Are you sending the "OMA OTA" format, or the "WAP OTA" format?

Any of the newer Nokia phones that use an HTTP/WAP2 based proxy only support the "OMA OTA" format.

Hi Bryce, Thanks for your quick reply as always :-)
I was selecting the WAP OTA, so I will try the OMA OTA format.

Thanks very much, Nathan

Hi Guys,
Did you manage to get the settings working successfully for the Nokia 6230?
I too am having problems getting the OMA OTA settings installed. The handset shows 'Network Settings failed to install'.
Do you have a templete that you know will work for sending the MMS configuration to the handset to a 6230?

Kind Regards,
Jon

Hi Jon,

As I mentioned in e-mail, the 6230 seems to require that a PIN be specified in the settings.

If you are sending via the web interface, check the "User PIN" option, and specify a 4 digit PIN.

If you are sending your own settings document through an HTTP request, add "&OTAPIN=####&OTAPINTYPE=USERPIN" to your URL request.

It certainly is an inconvenience to require a PIN, but this device seems to require them.

For example settings, here is an example based upon filling out the fields in our "OMA OTA" web page:

<wap-provisioningdoc>
<characteristic type="BOOTSTRAP">
<parm name="NAME" value="Test"/>
</characteristic>
<characteristic type="NAPDEF">
<parm name="NAME" value="Test"/>
<parm name="NAPID" value="Test_NAPID"/>
<parm name="BEARER" value="GSM-GPRS"/>
<parm name="NAP-ADDRESS" value="GPRSAPNName"/>
<parm name="NAP-ADDRTYPE" value="APN"/>
<characteristic type="NAPAUTHINFO">
<parm name="AUTHTYPE" value="PAP"/>
</characteristic>
</characteristic>
<characteristic type="PXLOGICAL">
<parm name="NAME" value="Test"/>
<parm name="PROXY-ID" value="Test_Proxy"/>
<parm name="STARTPAGE" value="http://wap.oa.yahoo.com/"/>
<characteristic type="PXPHYSICAL">
<parm name="PHYSICAL-PROXY-ID" value="Test_PhProxy"/>
<parm name="PXADDR" value="10.10.10.10"/>
<parm name="PXADDRTYPE" value="IPV4"/>
<parm name="TO-NAPID" value="Test_NAPID"/>
<characteristic type="PORT">
<parm name="PORTNBR" value="8080"/>
</characteristic>
</characteristic>
</characteristic>
<characteristic type="APPLICATION">
<parm name="APPID" value="w2"/>
<parm name="TO-PROXY" value="Test_Proxy"/>
<parm name="NAME" value="Browser"/>
<characteristic type="RESOURCE">
<parm name="URI" value="http://wap.oa.yahoo.com/"/>
<parm name="STARTPAGE"/>
</characteristic>
</characteristic>
<characteristic type="APPLICATION">
<parm name="APPID" value="w4"/>
<parm name="TO-PROXY" value="Test_Proxy"/>
<parm name="ADDR" value="http://mmsc:8081/"/>
</characteristic>
</wap-provisioningdoc>

Note that often you will not be able to edit or delete settings that you send to the 6230 (or other Nokia Series 40 phones). See the following thread for details about that issue:

Hi Bryce and Jon,
I was getting the same error message as Jon when I tried the OMA OTA method. I'll try the pin option and hopefully it should work...
Thanks for the help,
Nathan

Hello sarah

unfortunatly, this is not a support forum for the nokia 6230. i suggest that you would be better off trying the support forums on www.expansys.com

Emmett,

This is not a general support forum for mobile phones. This is the support forum for the Now SMS/MMS Gateway software product.

Also, it sounds like you have solved your own problem. You know the old story ...

"Doctor, it hurts when I do this."
"Then don't do that."

It might be a limitation of the phone.

In addition to the site mentioned above, www.howardforums.com has a lot of general mobile phone related technical discussion. (www.esato.com is quite good as well, but it is more oriented toward SonyEricsson phones.)

Sending the wap setting using web interface is new to me. I received from the air setting (mms/wap) from the service provider, but the settings could not be loaded, the two files brought up the error "file format not supported" every time. How do I get this done through the web interface?.
