Hello all,

I have a question that I think a lot of people might find either useful or totally absurd. I am currently in the process of looking for a "iron-clad" "sure-fire" way of delivering content to my clients. I am having problems as CDMA/TDMA/I-DEN phones cannot recieve wap push, I have played around with sckl but that is only for Nokia Smart Phone enabled phones. What I am basically asking is what are the current encoding technologies for mobile phones of all types and what do I need to look for in a SMS provider to help me deliver my product.

I love your program, it has helped me out tremendously in the testing phase of my webportal/site.

Here are some of the options I have thought of for delivering content to my users. Tell me what you think and how I could make them better...

WAP Push: (Send them a url hex encoded)
Only problem is that a very large portion of the market isn't wap push enabled or configured right anyway..

Binary: I think this is a good way for mono tones and small graphics etc.

MMS: Kind of pricy as most service providers who offer MMS also offer wap push of which is more economical.

TEXT URL: Just sending a plain ol sms with the url in it and hope that they can extract the url and follow the link on their own.

Thats all I know of, any help is very much appreciated. Thanks for your time and effort.

Regards,

Mark

Hi Mark,

It's definitely a big issue in the US market ... because you've got operator interconnectivity issues ... and lack of real binary interfaces into TDMA/CDMA/IDEN.

I think a text URL is the best bet, just keep it simple, and make sure the URL can be accessed via either a WAP browser on a phone, or a web browser from a PC.

We are running now in USA with charging via sms. We've done some experiences.
Words of advice.
1. Send textmessages instead of wappush or other binary stuff.
2. Do only sell content that is not delivered via binary sms.
3. Instead of sending the user directly to the content, create a WML page where there is a download link to the content. SonyErr. T610 + Nokia 6100, and many others still cannot do that without errors. It will keep you support to the minimum ;-)

Good luck...
