Im running an old version of NowSMS (if it aint broke dont fix it)

2015.06.24

I upgraded to 2018.10.?? and found that my MMS would no longer work.

I would see allot of this in the log and the mmsinq would get bigger and bigger. After downgrading back to 2015 the missing messages came through.
(still having issues with the new carrier though (different thread))

Hi,

Without more context, it's difficult to understand what is happening. The [23] and [21] indicate different threads...[23] is testing one modem, and it seems ok....[21] is trying to communicate with another modem and getting timeout errors. I assume you have multiple modems?

It's almost deja vu, as you experienced problems back then...similar, but different. The reason I mention this, is because we made modem driver changes in version 2015.08.26, in response to the problems you were encountering at the time. And then another version, 2015.10.21...

Do you still have SMSDEBUG.LOG from the problem with the new version? If so, email to nowsms@nowsms.com with Attention: Des in the subject line. I'd also like to see SMSGW.INI to see if there are any special modem settings applied.

I will prepare more info but this is a different issue

The previous issue was the the SMS messes where getting "stuck".We found that by using a different means of querying the modem we could fix it.

And it has been working ever since.

Now the SMS messages ARE going through but it cannot seem to download the MMS messages

I see the modems connecting. But i dont know where the log of WHY they couldn't download the mms payload would be.

What odd is that its the SAME problem i have with 2015 after porting a number to a new provider. SMS comes in but MMS cant download. I had it working for a short period of time and then it broke again for some reason.


I will try to create a lab server to replicate this issue and isolate the problem.

Enable the MMSWAPDEBUG.LOG...this my contain more info about what is failing.

What are the operators and MMS settings?

2015 cannot handle MMS settings that do not use a proxy.

There also can be an issue if an operator only supports IPv6...or sometimes only gives out an IPv6 address. We have been able to handle this with Android device connections, but not USB. It might be possible to modify the RAS profile that NowSMS generates so that only IPv4 is enabled, I haven't checked this...but thought it might be a possible issue for the modem with the ported number.

Follow-up...

With the 2018 version, try OldMMSModemHandling=Yes in the [MMSC] section of MMSC.INI. This reverts some changes to MMS handling with USB modems.
