Unfortunately there are different formats. WAP defined a standard for sending a vCard out to a phone, but Nokia seems to be the only major vendor that supports this format. (In NowSMS, this is the format that is sent out from the "Send WAP vCard" menu option.) You can find a reference to this format in the Nokia Smart Messaging specifications. SonyEricsson, and a number of other manufacturers phones, will automatically recognise "BEGIN:VCARD" in a regular text message, and treat it as a vCard. The problem is ... that you can't really send out a vCard that works on both types of phones. Complicating matters a little more, EMS also defines a format for including a vCard in a message. But this was added late in the life cycle of the EMS specs, so I don't think it is very widely supported (and Nokia phones don't do EMS). vCards can easily be included in an MMS message. But with MMS you have more issues regarding cross operator connectivity ... and it is generally more expensive to send MMS rather than SMS. WAP Push is another alternative ... and a little more widely supported by modern phones. But it does require that users have WAP/browser service enabled on their phones. To send a vCard out via WAP Push using NowSMS, use the Multimedia WAP Push function, and include a vCard as a file to be included in the message which has a ".vcf" extension. -bn | |||
