I am using nowmms to set up a small mms server between my self and 2 of my friends. we are all three registered on the mms users list in the gateway. When i try to send a message it gives me an error of communication (i entered the mms server as http://x.x.x.x/username=password)what could i do wrong. i configured the mmsc activated it. could you please tell me what are the appropriate settings i should use.
Thanks,
Hrag

Hi Hrag,

Let's try to determine if any activity is making it as far as the MMSC (component of the Now SMS/MMS Gateway).

Enable the debug log in the MMSC. Do this by manually editing MMSC.INI, and adding Debug=Yes under the [MMSC] section header. Then restart the MMSC service.

Repeat your connection attempt. Does any activity occuring in the MMSCDEBUG.LOG? Does it show that it is receiving any data?

With an indicator getting to 37% it sounds like the WAP gateway through which you are connecting does not support segmentation and re-assembly, which is required for MMS. (It sounds like maybe the first packet is being sent, but an error occurs after that first packet, because the WAP gateway doesn't understand segmentation and reassembly.) That's why I'd be curious if anything is making it to the MMSC, as the MMSC might just be receiving a part of the message.

Try sending an MMS with text only, and see if that fares any better.

What operator are you using? What setting for GPRS APN? What setting for WAP Gateway IP address?

If the operator has a GPRS APN that allows internet connectivity, try connecting to a WAP gateway that runs in our office on IP address 213.48.20.10, and we can see if that works any better.

oh and i am using Aljawal in Saudi Arabian.
my apn is jawalnet.com.sa i dont have a mms service here, and my gprs connection allows only internet and not wap, therefore i am using your wap gateway.

If it works when sending a text only MMS, then it sounds like the segmentation and re-assembly problem that I mentioned earlier. A text message is smaller, so it can be sent with only a single segment in the WAP protocol, and this isn't an issue.

If you're certain that you're connecting via 213.48.20.10 as the WAP gateway, let me know the username that you are using in your MMS server URL, and I'll see if I can find any reference to that username in the log file on that machine.

Are you able to send a WAP push message from the web interface, and have that received by a mobile phone?

If that works, then as a next step, see if there is any problem sending a WAP push message that contains a long amount of text (more than 150 characters in the text field).

(MMS notifications go out over WAP push, so as a first step it is easier to troubleshoot a WAP push.)

Yes, it needs to be 8 bit. That would be definitely be a problem.

is there any way i could proceed without an 8-bit SMSC, unfortunately Aljawal here which is the operator in saudi arabia does not have an 8-bit smsc, what are my options

I'm not aware of any options. There is consideration for delivering WAP Push messages in 7-bit environments defined in the WAP specifications.

But in my limited testing, I have not been successful in finding a GSM mobile phone that accepts a WAP push encoded in this way.

Try sending the following as a text message. If it is received as a WAP push message, then there may be hope.

//SCKL0B8423F0 (space)

Insert a space character in place of the "(space)" text above.
