Hi, When I do a GPRS test connection for my Multitech USB GSM modem I get "Unable to connect to WAP gateway". I have also tried with my Nokia 32 GSM modem and it works fine, same SIM, same network and same GPRS MMS settings. I have attached the MMSWAP debug log for both modems. If you look you can see that the Nokia 32 is routing via a completely different addrees range to the Multitech. I think that is the problem anyone know how to solve it?

Hi, Why are you defining it using a "Dial-up:" connection? Select a "Modem:" entry in the "Network Connection:" field, and tell NowSMS which GPRS APN to use. If you do a GPRS connection via a "Dial-up:" profile, then the DUN profile within Windows needs to set the correct GPRS APN. If you do a GPRS connection via a "Modem:" entry, then NowSMS is able to manually select the correct GPRS APN. I suspect what is happening is that the Nokia 32 is already configured to use the correct APN, while the Multitech is not. Letting NowSMS control the APN selection by changing the "Network Connection:" type should resolve this. -bn | |||||

Hi, Both modems are set to the correct APN by having: AT+CDCONT="IP","orangemms",,0,0 in the Initialisation command box for the modem. The DUN then dials *99***1# to open the GPRS connection. I have tried the Multitech without DUN as you suggested but it still fails the test connection. | |||||

Hmm. Make sure that it is AT+CGDCONT (I suspect it is just a typo in your message above). Assuming that is correct, I don't know why the one modem would get such different results. But I do find the difference in the IP addresses referenced in the routing from the debug log to be interesting. If it is consistent that one modem gets a "192." address while the other gets a "10." address ... then I would suspect that they are connecting to different APNs. Do you see this same type of IP activity when you configure NowSMS to use the "Modem:" connection profiles? Try the DUN connections individually. Run IPCONFIG /ALL ... are you seeing the same IP address behaviour? | |||||

Hi, I think ive made some progress although things are still not working!. When using the non DUN method as u suggested. Neither the nokia or Multitech work. What I do find is that both modems connect using the same IP range. But neither of them can connect to the WAP gateway. When I do ipconfig /all i can see that the Default gateway isnt being set which is probably causing the problem. When using the non DUN way, it does actualy make a DUN connection in the Win2000 "Network and dial connections" section. I had a look at this and found that "Use remote default gateway" is unchecked. So i checked it but when NowSMS uses the connection it still doesnt get the remote default gateway!!. I go back to the DUN connection icon and the "Use remote default gateway" is unchecked again!?? | |||||

I'm not sure that this explanation will get us any closer to resolution, but I can explain that part of what you are seeing. NowSMS disables the "use remote default gateway" setting. If that setting is enabled, then while the dial-up connection is active, all internet activity gets routed over the dial-up connection. As you can imagine, this causes you problems if you are trying to connect to the NowSMS server over HTTP from another PC on your network. That is why we disable that setting. It shouldn't have any effect on anything else, at least I've never seen where this caused a problem for us. -bn | |||||

Ok problem solved!. When my modem connects to Orange via GPRS, the network issues an IP on the 10.0.0.0 network. As I use 10.0.0.0 addresses on our lan this caused a conflict. Simple answer was to put our lan on a different network. | |||||
