Hi,
Since 4thFeb China mobile has seemed to have cut the sender number from the notification message for mms (so it is now 1 segment). So if delayed retrieval is set the user does not know who the waiting mms message to download is from.
Now we need to accept download of anonymous mms when immediate retrieval is set.
I am wondering if anyone has information about why china mobile has done this.

Not only that, but the default configuration for many Nokia phones (and some others) is to reject "anonymous" messages. And the phone considers the message to be anonymous if there is no sender information in the notification.

Squeezing the notification into a single SMS is a way to save SMS bandwidth, which is always desirable. That would most likely have been the motivating factor for such a change. However, removing the sender from the notification is not without side effects.

Shortening the notification URL, leaving out the subject ... those are all good ways to reduce the size of the notification. Also, using the short type for content code will save around 30 bytes at the expense of causing problems for a few early model MMS phones.

Specific discussion of the notification size as it relates to NowSMS can be found at the following threads:

Looking back at those old threads, I see that one of the problems that I noted with leaving the sender address out of the notification was that the SonyEricsson T68i was unable to reply. I can't say I've tried that lately, but I seemed to know what I was talking about 18 months ago.
