Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help. I have 2 way supporting for SMS setup fine and also have MMS sending working, but I am having problems receiving MMS messages into the nowSMS system.

I am using a t68i as a GSM modem, so I think I have configured everything in the settings to enable incoming MMS support. I am using the Vodafone network and have therefore configured the MMS settings accordingly - I have run the 'Test Connection' under the MMS settings section of the SMSC 'Properties' and everything seems fine - the t68i connects to the network via GPRS and I get a 'connection OK' message.

Unfortunately, when I send MMS messages to the t68i, the t68i picks these up (they appear in the devices MMS inbox) but nothing appears in the MMS-IN inbox.

Is there something I am doing wrong?

I was also wondering whether it was possible to configure nowSMS to use its own MMSC (which I use for sending MMS messages) as the MMSC to use for receiving messages. - this would obviously require re-configuration of the sending mobile to point to the new MMSC, but would get around the file size limits imposed by the Vodafone MMSC?

Any help on any of this would be much appreciated,

Many Thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter,

What you are describing is a limitation of using a mobile phone as a GSM modem. Basically, the MMS client in the mobile phone intercepts the received message, and the phone does not forward it over the GSM modem interface.

The only solution is to use a dedicated GSM modem device (such as the Siemens MC35 Terminal, Nokia 30, Wavecom or Multitech GPRS modem, Sierra Wireless Aircard, etc.).

You can configure a phone to use NowSMS as its MMSC (change the MMSC Server URL setting, which might also require the GPRS access point name to be changed). But that will not help you receive messages that were sent via an operator MMSC, as the operator MMSC would need to be reconfigured to deliver messages to you via a different path.

Depending on what you're trying to accomplish, this might still be a potential solution. For example, people who are setting up observation cameras that support MMS sometimes configure the camera to post to the NowSMS MMSC so that they have some more control over the messaging flow.

Here are some threads that discuss that type of application setup:
