Hi - I am new to all this and am currently just trying to get nowSMS to recognize my phone connected to a PC via USB. When I try to set up an SMSC connection type = GSM Phone, nowSMS only gives me the option to connect to COM1. How can I get it to recognize the USB?

Do you have a driver for the phone/USB cable?

In order to actually use the device, a virtual COM port driver for the USB port needs to be installed. Normally this happens automatically ... and Windows complains if it doesn't have a driver for the device.

(If you don't have a driver, check the manufacturer's web site.)

NowSMS scans all available COM ports, and only lists the ones that the system considers to be available.

If another application has a COM port open, then it will not appear on the list. So this is another possibility ... if you installed some other software that is talking to the modem (like Nokia PC Suite), then that could be a problem.

NowSMS can also talk to modems through Windows modem drivers, so I'd suggest concentrating on getting the modem to appear in the "Modems" list under "Phone & Modem Options" in the Windows Control Panel. Make sure that within the modem setup in the Control Panel, you can use Diagnostics/Query Modem to talk to the modem, as this will help ensure that the modem is installed correctly.
