I'd like to use the Option based Vodafone Connect 3G card with nowsms for MMS receive. Is this possible? I read some previous posts about problems with phones not passing through the control SMS messages. | |||

Hi Andrew, I'm under the impression that the card works ok. At one point in time there was a problem specific to NowSMS in that the modem driver that gets installed has a "[" character in the name. That problem has been resolved for quite some time. A subsequent problem was an inability to send SMS messages. This is because the card defaults to trying to send SMS messages over the packet switched network ... but Voda doesn't have this support completely in place everywhere. So under the "Properties" for the modem in the "SMSC" list of NowSMS, you need to set "SMS Access" to "GSM". (Admittedly this is a bit confusing in a 3G context, but it means that SMS is going to be sent over the circuit switched side of the network.) I would only set this setting if you experience a problem sending SMS, as it is likely that Vodafone may have already upgraded their network for this support, and my information could be outdated. -bn |
