Hello. We (my company) has bought an NowSMS license, and use the software, and it works great. Thank you vary much for the nice software :-)

Currently I am having problems, and I dont really know where i should go to get info about these things, So i figured that in here there are many cellphonespecialists, so this would be a good forum to ask the questions.

1) I am sending vcards to customers. Customers has all variaties of cellphones and unfortunatly they seem to disagree upon how to send vcards.
So if i send a vcard to a Nokia phone i need to convert the vcard to hex before sending it.
In an Sony Ericsson i just need to send the vcard in plain text as an SMS.
So I need to know what about Siemens, Motorola, Samsung, Alcatel, Bosch, LG Electronics, NEC, Panasonic ,Sagem and others. How should i send vcards to them?

Furthermore i need to insert a brake in the number of the vcard. The reason for this is that the phonenumber nested in the vcard contains both a number and a pincode.
So people should be able to dial wait for ready and dial pincode, all automatically.

In nokia this works by writing numberwpincode e.g. 54678465w78965412345, so w inserts the brake. But this does not work for other phones, so again how can i achieve a brake when using Sony Ericsson, Siemens, Motorola, Samsung, Alcatel, Bosch, LG Electronics, NEC, Panasonic ,Sagem and others?

I know these questions are probably not to easy to answer, but it is really a big problem for me, and i would be happy to just get partanswers. So please if you know just a little bit or know where I can find some info about this, please write me an answer here. I am a bit desperat.

Many regards bumle90

Hi,

Unfortunately we are running a bit behind as we have been working feverishly on the new version planned for late next month.

vCards are a pain because there is a lack of consistency for how they are supported in different phones. The WAP specs defined a nice simple protocol for sending them ... but unfortunately, it was not very widely implemented.

It was also a smart idea for SonyEricsson to just recognise them automatically if they were present in a text message. (But unfortunate that they did not recognise the WAP standard format ... although they do now in with the W800.)

There's also an EMS format for sending vCards (but I don't think it is widely implemented as it was added relatively late in the evolution of EMS). And there is an MMS format (see http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/485/11936.html).

Unfortunately, I don't have answers for how vCards are implemented in all of the different phones that you mention.

In fact, one of the things that you will find, is that while SonyEricsson and Nokia phones offer options to "send" a contact from your phonebook to another phone via SMS ... many other phones don't offer that option ... and cannot recognise contacts sent via SMS from SonyEricsson or Nokia phones.

So, this is an area that should be simple, but unfortunately it's not.

But I can suggest that if you are sending vCards to phones that have WAP browsing enabled, sending them with WAP Push is probably the most compatible way to go.
