Hi I use Now SMS v2014005.30. I have questions for OMA Provisioning Contents menu. Could you change the Inbound/Outbound SMTP Encryption menu of OMA Provisioning Content? Now, Inbound Mail Encryption and Outbound SMTP Encryption selection menu are None,SSL/TLS, STARTTLS. Selection menu is three. I want to change the menu None, SSL, TLS, STARTTLS. Selection menu is four. If it possible? I input some datas in the E-mail Setting Section of OMA Provisioning Contents. And then I select View XML. At this time, <parm name="SERVICE" value="995"/> 995 is port number. I know that service value have to input security type such SSL,TLS. is it correct? I want to change that SERVICE value input security type such as SSL, TLS not port number. Now <parm name="SERVICE" value="995"/> ----> After changing <parm name="SERVICE" value="SSL"/> can you change this? Thanks

Hi Johnny, You can create your own XML documents in ay format that you like, and send them via "Send XML Settings". You do not have to use the XML generated by our forms. It appears that we are using the standard SSL port number for POP3 as the "SERVICE" value for SSL/TLS, because that is what was documented in OTA provisioning documents from both Motorola and Nokia. We might be able to change this, but it would help if you could confirm that you get the results you expect by sending the edited XML from "Send XML Settings". -- Des NowSMS Support

Thank you for your support. 1. OMA Provisioning Content menu cannot be changed to select SSL, TLS separately? Our developer want to select SSL, TLS separately in the OMA Provisioning Content. 2. SERVICE" value cannot change from port number to security type in the OMA Provisioning Content? Because OMA Provisioning Content menu obey Motorola and Nokia Document? 3. When I change "SERVICE" value from port number to security type, I use the Send XML Settings? 4. you said "We might be able to change this, but it would help if you could confirm that you get the results you expect by sending the edited XML from "Send XML Settings". -> I can help you. 5. Send XML Settings obey Nokia/Ericsson Over The Air Settings specification. but I have to test using the LGE handset. When I send XML Settings to LGE mobile phone, mobile phone is not received. Do you modify Send XML Settings menu so that XML Setting MSG is received to the LGE mobile phone. Thanks

Correct. If you refer to the OMA CP spec, there is no definition of SSL, TLS, STARTTLS as possible SERVICE values. If you refer to section 4.6.4, you'll see: The SERVICE parameter specifies which service is available behind this particular port number. Possible values are defined in the table below. The service can also be indicated by a well known port number being given as SERVICE. The format of this port number is as defined in PORTNBR. This parameter MUST be supported by the WAP client. Service Explanation
As you will see, STARTTLS is not even listed as an option. However, the Enabler Test Specification for Client Provisioning does show numerous examples using the STARTTLS value. (See http://technical.openmobilealliance.org/Technical/Release_Program/docs/ETS/OMA-ETS-ClientProvisioning-V1_1-20080421-C.pdf) When SSL/TLS is used directly, section 4.6.4 applies, and the standard IANA secure port number for the protocol is used (993 for IMAP, 995 for POP3, 465 for SMTP). Microsoft reference: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb737695.aspx Nokia and Motorola references are no longer on the web, but these registration documents originally provided by Nokia provide some insight.
The use of the secure port number is consistent with the definition in 4.6.4 of the OMA CP spec at http://technical.openmobilealliance.org/Technical/Release_Program/docs/ClientProv/V1_1-20090728-A/OMA-WAP-TS-ProvCont-V1_1-20090728-A.pdf
If you want to use a "SERVICE" value other than described above, yes, that is the only option.
Do you have a document that describes LGE expectations for the settings? Can you send the settings correctly to LGE phone by changing only <parm name="SERVICE" value="SSL"/> As Des stated, we can consider changing this. Current behavior is following the specifications, but admittedly the specifications are not clear and may not ave been interpreted the same way by other manufacturers. -bn Bryce Norwood Now SMS/MMS Support |
