Well, that's not really what it's about here, but people do ask about this when using our product. And basically, when you are sending messages through a GSM modem (or phone), you cannot change your sender address. Many accounts with a bulk SMS service provider will allow you to specify any value that you want as the sender address of a message. It is possible, of course, to get in trouble for misuse. Many high end SMS service providers require you to sign a contract specifying potential significant penalties for misuse ... because your misuse can result in a mobile operator suspending access to the provider. Many also restrict you to using a set of sender addresses that you have pre-registered with them, instead of allowing any address to be used. All this said, I suspect that you're just looking at this issue from the perspective of a mobile phone user, not a potential customer of our NowSMS product. So, I do want to clarify one point ... because I don't want someone to argue with me. Technically it is possible to send an SMS from your phone and specify any address as the sender. You cannot do this with the built-in SMS client on the mobile phone, but it is technically possible that you could use a Java app, or browser connection to some type of SMS service provider to do this. I don't know of any service provider that provides this type of functionality, but I mention it for the sake of completeness. | |||
