Hi, Have you published any notes on upgrade to v2020 from older versions? Any license impact? If so, how do we do it without impacting the service? Any notes if SSL/TLS has been enabled? Mathew

Hi Mathew, Information about changes can be found at https://www.nowsms.com/download/changes.txt (This document also describes some further updates that have not yet been widely released, but are available on request. Upgrading is usually simple. Your NowSMS license has a maintenance expiry date. This allows you to update to any release with a version date before that expiry date. If you purchase an upgrade, a new license is issued with an updated maintenance expiry date, which will allow the update to be installed. When you run the install for the new version, if the license needs to be updated, it will prompt you like this: If you are not prompted for a new license code as part of this update process, apply it from the "Serial #" page after installation. The most important thing to remember is: Do not apply the new license code until you install the new version. The biggest potential issue with upgrading is a bug in older versions of NowSMS which can be confused by newer license codes and cause performance problems. For this reason, we recommend not using one of these newer license codes with older versions of NowSMS. A second important thing to remember is never uninstall unless you are removing NowSMS completely from the computer. The installer program is designed to update the existing installation. What if an unexpected issue requires you to rollback to a previous version? It is possible to use an installer for a previous version to downgrade to that version. However, some older versions of NowSMS will exhibit performance problems when used with a newer license, so it may be necessary in his case to remove your new license and reapply the old license. Note: If you no longer have your old license, it is possible to back it up before applying a new one. The license code is saved in a file named SERIAL.INI, which is normally a hidden file. This file is located in the same directory as SMSGW.INI (normally under "Program Files", but for some older installs it may be under ""ProgramData", which is often a hidden directory). HI, We have the installation that has expired Maintenance date. We have bought the new v2020 license. Am I right in understanding that I also need to get the license of old version with extended Maintenance date, upgrade to v2020 and then apply the new license? Mathew

Hi Mathew, Do you mean that there are now multiple different serial numbers? If so, then yes, any installed need to be upgraded. If they are the same serial number, but different codes, use the new code when installing the update, which should ask for this. Regards, Des NowSMS Support

Des, The server has a v2016.03.28 whose license and maintenance has expired. So the customer bought a renewed license and that has been given for v2020 with the IRC of the v2016.03.28. So what do we do? Uninstall v2016 and reinstall v2020 and reconfigure as the new license is not to be used on versions before v2018. Or what is the best way forward? Mathew |
