When you send an SMS message using a GSM modem interface, the phone number of the SIM card in the modem/phone, will always be displayed as the message sender.

The only way around this is to send messages through an SMS service provider that supports alphanumeric senders instead. (Most providers do.)

I can't recommend any specific providers. Most of them will support HTTP or SMPP protocols for you to submit messages over the internet. And most of them are pre-pay, so that you purchase credits for your account with the service provider before you are allowed to send any messages.

Sorry if I wasn't clear in my previous reply. I will attempt to clarify that reply.

When you send an SMS message using a GSM modem interface, the phone number of the SIM card in the modem/phone, will always be displayed as the message sender. There is not a way to override this.

The only way around this is to send messages through an SMS service provider that supports alphanumeric senders instead. When I say "through an SMS service provider", I mean in a way that does not use a GSM modem (e.g., SMPP connection to the service provider, HTTP, or one of the other TCP/IP based protocols).

In those environments, you configure the sender address as a text string when configuring the SMSC connection in NowSMS. (You can also override the configured sender address by using the &Sender=xxx parameter when submitting a message.)

But you do need to be connected to an SMS service provider that supports alphanumeric sender, using an SMSC type other than "GSM modem".

If you're an individual and just sending a few text messages, then investigate one of the many free SMS web sites out there. I don't have any one site in particular that I would recommend.

For something that will support automated sending (including NowSMS), I would suggest www.clickatell.com, as it is relatively easy to sign up for.

Note: I don't have any affiliation with Clickatell ... in this case, I'm recommending them primarily because they are relatively easy to sign up with, especially for low volume usage. (Many providers are not interested in low volume accounts.)

The best advice I can give you is to search the web using keywords such as "bulk SMS" and "SMS service provider".
