Hi,

One of my customer is asking for clarification on how NowSMS/MMS gateway is using the license. They use it as an MMSC and are using: MM4, MM7, MM1 interfaces (and SMPP for notifications).

The license is N number of messages per minute.
What is exactly considered as a message: all MMS arriving on one interface ?
In the log file MMSC, I can see:
2008-06-25 00:02:13,MMSIN,aaa.bbb.0.179,+xxxxxxx28803,+xxxxxxx39649,20080625/00/DEB8146D,SA R-+xxxxxxx39649-cc-2-1.req,15259
2008-06-25 00:02:33,MMSRETRIEVE,aaa.bbb.0.179,+xxxxxxx28803,+xxxxxxx39649,20080625/00/DEB81 46D.MMS,OK,15330
2008-06-25 00:03:07,MMSOUT,VASP:MM4operator,+xxxxxxx66945/TYPE=PLMN,+xxxxxx591430,OK,33CC32 68.MMS,1253
2008-06-25 00:03:19,MMSRETRIEVE,aaa.bbb.0.179,+xxxxxx892167,+xxxxxxx15212,20080625/00/36EA9 02B.MMS,OK,4719
2008-06-25 00:03:21,MMSIN-DeliveryReport,,SMS:localsystem,+xxxxxx892167,VASP:MM4operator,9C ECD922.mms,137
2008-06-25 00:03:23,MMSOUT-DeliveryReport,VASP:SFR,+xxxxxxx15212/TYPE=PLMN,+xxxxxx892167,OK ,9CECD922.MMS,550

I'm assuming only the MMSIN, MMOUT, MMSRETRIEVE are counted as messages for the license. Am I correct ? If no, what is exactly counted ?

Once the limit is reached within one minute, messages are buffered. This can only apply to messages SENT by the MMSC, not to messages received. Does it mean the license is ONLY on the outgoing messages (ie MMSOUT lines) ?

Thanks
Jerome

I responded to this one directly, but I should also respond here for others who have this same question:

Several different throttling points exist in NowSMS, in order to restrict the message flow to stay within the license limit.

1.) Outbound SMS delivery (e.g., SMPP or other SMSC connections)
2.) Outbound MMS delivery to an external MMSC (e.g., "MMSC Routing" definition)
3.) Inbound 2-way SMS processing

The license limits are applied at this throttling points independently of each other.

In other words, a surge in inbound 2-way SMS processing does not slow down outbound SMS or MMS message delivery.
