Can the Siemens A50 cell phone be connected to a PC and used as a GSM modem and a virtual smsc, instead of getting an expensive smsc connection? The phone is a dual band GSM which allows sending and receiving SMS messages including group SMS and a serial data cable is available for this phone.

Hi Robin, Based upon a quick search of the net, I don't think the Siemens A50 supports the AT command set for sending/receiving SMS messages. I suspect if you got the cable, and tried it with NowSMS, that it would return the error "Modem does not support SMS". If you have a data cable, you can try this. The information that I have seen on the internet could be wrong. Information on phones that work as a GSM modem: http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/4218.html -bn
